Ok, in the category of “too cool”, we got a text message from our neighbors that the bighorn sheep were walking down the road. We went to our kitchen window, and saw this. Sooo cool. Yea, we have white tail deer and turkeys, but not many people have these things roaming in their yard. Hahah.
1 Great Big of
?
One time our neighbor was drinking, and we saw a Dodge Ram in our backyard.
FYI… these guys are not small… male bighorns range between 150 and 320 pounds here in the black hills.. their horns weigh 30 pounds. The are about 6 feet long and at the shoulders are about 3.5 feet tall… this one in the photo looked like he was full sized. I know I dont want to run into him. They estimate that there are only about 350 individual sheep in the Black Hills, which is about 1.2 million acres. (we have almost 3500 acres per individual sheep available for them to graze in the black hills). The chances of seeing an individual is rare.. This was the first time in our neighborhood… i have seen them while driving around about a dozen times over the past 2 years.
They look like they’d do a good bit of damage to whatever they hit…people, cars, each other
WOW!!! That’s so exciting. I love seeing what my son calls “bumpin’ sheep”. He was 3 years old when he first saw them.
