Tracker response in Vantage 5.2.132

I just got off the phone with support. Apparently nobody has called
in to create an incident on this problem yet, but the support person
could duplicate the problem on her system so she is writing it up as
a performance issue. However, she also tested it on version 6 and
there is no longer a problem. She will pass the issue on to
development, but since it is working in the most current version, she
doesn't think that they will fix 5.2. Man I love this software!

We recently migrated from V5.1 to V5.2. I'm getting a lot of flack about
the responses of the trackers

When the default sort is changed. In other words, If I change the quote
tracker from the default (quote number)

To sales person.....I might as well go get a cup of coffee. It takes
anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes to get any

Information back. And, the vantage session is hung while this process is
taking place.

Is this the norm? or is there some remedy to get this operating as it was in
V5.1?

Thanks for any responses.

We are on 5.2 and we are not seeing slowdowns like this when switching
tracker sort options, though it is a little slower than I'd like (maybe 2-3
seconds).

I do find that my receiving tracker is very slow to open (15 - 30 seconds),
though that's the only one and once it's opened it's fine.

We have quotes going back to 1996. Our database is 2.5G right now.
I'm wondering if the amount of data that must be sorted is a factor here.

thanks sarah

Database size could be it - our database is 775 MB. Our data goes back to
1999.

I see slowness in different areas. Our database is 2gb, we have a busy part
with over 4000 part transaction records. When you press TRANSACTION HISTORY
you get a 5-8 second delay. Also scrolling up and down in the browse is very
sluggish.

Patrick,
we have some of those parts also. I ended up providing a part transaction
report builder report
because some times in part transaction history, it would take 1 minutes or
more to return any
data. the worst part of this is that the vantage session is completely
locked up during the retrieval.

Our vantage server is a PIII 1.4 MHZ, 2 G RAM , single processor, Raid 5,
dual NIC.
We have 69 users banging on it, but this new version seems very
unresponsive.

thanks,

Actually I think archiving is not the way to go. I wish there was some type
of chart which as you grow in database size and number of users you would
know what type of server RAM, Processors, Drives, NIC cards, etc... are
needed to support it.

Dick and I are both running PIII servers which means are hardware is about 4
years old. And it gets tough to run any new software on hardware this old.

Hey Todd,
I can say AMEN to that. Epicor says that the next release will have
more purge capabilities.
We have a bunch of obsolete Part number, Vendors, Customers, buyers,
quoters, etc, etc, etc.
Before we migrated to V5.2, I purged some labor detail recs. I got rid of
about
half a million records. Now the problem I have is that I cannot do a dump
and load to reindex everything
because we have some custom code/tables where I would need a custom dump and
load procedure
which costs additional $$$'s.
It would be great to be able to keep no more than 8 quarters of data in
the database and archive
the rest.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Actually, Purging records is a pretty serious issue. I have a QS9000
auditor that is going to be expecting purged records from our database,
as well as contractural requirements by customers. Lets !!GO!!
development we need those purge functions.

Dick,

I am in a test mode upgrading from 5.0 to 5.2. After reading your
message I tried to test it in our situation. We have a brand new
Dell Server with Dual 1.5 GHZ XEON processors and 2 GB of Ram. I am
the only user connected to it, and it takes about 45 seconds for the
screen to load when I change the sort from Quote # to Salesperson.

While we are talking about his I would like to take a moment to rant
about the changes made to the Quoting Module, specifically why
Quoters are all of a sudden considered Sales People. Now there are
2 "Sales People" listed for each quote. One who is the Sales Person
and one who is the Quoter. They eliminated the Quoter field which
was a seperate method for sorting in 5.0 and the result is that each
quote is listed twice when you sort by Sales Person. Once for the
Quoter as the sales person and once for the actual sales person.
This decision is probably what has led to the poor performance in
sorting by this field.

Brian,
I already modified one of our quote analysis reports, and still have a
few more to go.
I know Epicor has reasons for these changes, but it really is a bummer when
you have users
calling and complaining that their previous version reports don't work.
I agree with you about the new table being the reason for the poor
performance. And,
why buyers and customer service people are considered sales folks leaves me
scratching my
head.
I've told my folks not to change the sorts on trackers. If they need,
something on a regular
basis, I will write a report builder report.

regards,
