Transfer Orders - On-Hand Qty

Rob,

Thanks for the quick reply and the insight. For our environment,
where need item level control after shipment, we are looking for
transfer orders to replace jobs. We never sell the kit we are dealing
with but put it out to different sites, and return and swap kit
around. But kit is in the main workshop for a period of time, so I
was concerned about valuation and quantity of available stock.
Obviously, with jobs there is better accounting transactions for wip
etc which we need. We are currently looking for the intransit account
maybe as a wip account.

Thanks again.

Hi,

We are looking to implement Transfer Orders. However, it seems that
once picked the on-hand qty remains the same, until it is shipped? Is
this correct. If so, has anybody else found a way around this. We would
have a significant period between picking and shipping. Would there be
a way to relieve the stock by another method? I was thinking about AMM
but I don't think it is relevant. I suppose I could use a inventory
transfer to a holding warehouse/bin but this would be a double entry.

Could anybody offer an advice on this ?

Thanks in advance.
We don't use Transfer orders but the behavior sounds very much like normal Pack Out behavior in regard to customer order shipments.

When a stocked part is entered as a pending shipment in pack out, it is only pre-creating the data/mechanism for eventually relieving inventory upon shipment. The inventory appears in stock in a warehouse bin until shipment actually occurs at which time an inventory transaction occurs and inventory is relieved by the shipped amount.

(Same is true for Make Direct Jobs for nonstocks... The Jobs stay unreceived as WIP after pre-entry into Pack Out until the shipment actually occurs).

Just to keep some level as sanity & traceability to the process, we move pending shipment stocked inventory to a Shipping Warehouse bin (nettable as MRP is turned on for these parts) to keep MRP happy (balanced supply and demand) yet still provide some modicum of inventory control.

It is an 'extra' transaction, but it has proved worth it (on Vantage and on our legacy system where this part of the process was very similar).
