Transferring WIP for a go-live

We brought our IL location on to Vantage last April 1st. We began
creating jobs/P.O.s several weeks before, but did not begin receiving
material/applying labor against the WIP jobs until 4/1 and after (on
3/31, we quantity/cost-adjusted all of our Raw and FG into Vantage). It
took us several months to completely run the old system out. Then, by
the end of the 3rd quarter, we transferred the remaining jobs (less than
10) over to Vantage.

Thanks!

Okay ladies and Gentlemen,

Here's a question for you concerning the handling of WIP jobs while
going
live in Vantage and de-commissioning another ERP system.
I've got hundreds of jobs listed in WIP that are all obviously going to
have
to be transferred one way or another into Vantage.
Fortunately for me during my last implementation, we started clean with
no
open jobs to deal with.
At this company, I'm not so fortunate.

Has anyone got a few words of wisdom as to what you think may be the
best
way to handle this?
I would love to do a mass migration of the data from the existing ERP
system, but I'm not sure it's the right thing to do just yet, and I'm
planning the "Go-live" for April 1st (I know...a completely foolish day
to
pick!).

Thanks.

Jim:
As far as a mass migration goes, if you are implementing Vantage 6.1
Epicor has a data conversion tool available along with the necessary
maps to load open jobs into Vantage. This said, there is a learning
curve with the Data Conversion Tool. Also, loading Open Jobs is the
mother of all data loads in that it touches many tables and is a
daunting task. If your April 1 date is firm, this probably won't be
an option.

We started on Vantage last June. We did not data load open jobs into
Vantage. We aggressively closed as many jobs as possible, we went
from 300 open to < 30. For the jobs left open, we created partial
jobs in Vantage, partial in the sense that we only put up
missing/short materials and operations that were not complete. This,
however, created WIP valuation problems until these orders worked
their way through Vantage (about six weeks).

Some things to think about. You are bringing back memories from last
year just when I thought the pain was finally gone. Feel the joy!

When we went live we created jobs for all the jobs in WIP and then used
the Job Adjustment form to get the costs in the system. If was a bit of
work, but was the recommended approach from our consultant.

I have been using the Data Conversion Tool for about a year now &
feel pretty comfortable with it.
However, I just started looking at WIP for the first time about a
week ago. It does seem to snake out into a LOT of places.
So far I'm looking at JobHead, JobAsmbl, JobMtl, JobOper, JobOpMac,
JobAudit, JobProd and PartTran. I suspect there are more tables to
consider. I'm going to keep looking, but I suspect closing all jobs
in the old system and manually entering in the new is safer.

This is what we did as well... just have to make sure all costs are there before you go live.. we were told it didn't have to be.. but we found out differently.
