Two Data Collection Questions

Marty,

I use badges with barcodes and a keyboard wedge/barcode reader. The employee
scan his/hers employee id (all numbers), and depending of what type of
labor, they proceed to scan/start an activity or not (i.e. Inspectors do
inspecting all day long. So, when they clock in, they start an activity as
well). They scan everything out of a clock in/out sheet and their badges. So
far, we are still filling labor cards until the shop employees are more
comfortable with the system.

I would suggest for you to pick a group and start slowly. First, ask them to
clock in and out. Later on, you could ask them to start activities. My
experience, deal first with personnel that do the same thing all day long
(as the example above). Later on, you could start with a small group to
enter jobs, etc. If you have advance bill of materials, you might be forced
to do all employees at the same time.

Good Luck!

Subject: [Vantage] Two Data Collection Questions

We're working on implementing Data Collection and migrating from 5.1 to
6.1 at the same time and this has raised some questions for us:

1. What system do you use to determine an employee's ID #. The 4 digit
system we started 20 years ago based on the first 2 letters of the
employee's last name is no longer working for us.

2. How do you have employees clock in when they arrive? Barcode badge,
keyboard/mouse, Magstripe badge? If it's some sort of badge what hardware
recommendations do you have?

Any other random thoughts are also welcome!

Thanks,

1.) We used 1st 7 letters of last name and 1st letter of first name. it
Became a problem when we had 4 brothers join on who all had first names that
began with J. we improves to second letter or third letter for some. If I
had it to do over, I would probably use #'s.

2.) We use keyboard and mouse - been using it for 3 years and it works well.

Marty,

We are on 5.2

1. We use the employees initials + the last 4 digits of the social
security number. DMH1234 would be my id. So far this has worked well for
us.
2. We use a barcode to log in and out.

I would love to go to a magstripe badge with the employee's picture on it -
but I am not sure if it is possible or feasible. Anyone out there using a
magstripe bade?

Have a Nice Day,
