Please let me and the group know what you think about this once you have
used it. My Epicor account rep saw my message yesterday and has already
called me and forwarded the information on Express Ship. While it is not
free it definitely looks safer than what UPS proposed.

We are currently in the process of integrating a package from Vantage called
Express Ship. They apparently wrote it in conjunction with UPS. We aren't
up and running yet, but hope to be soon. Still ironing out a few of the
paperwork issues (contracts, etc.). Basically, it will "export" the
shipping info to the WorldShip system and then "import" the tracking numbers
and freight charges back to Vantage. We anticipate it really helping to
eliminate some of the duplication-related data-entry errors.

The only UPS link I am aware of is the Advanced Shipping module (in 6.1
only?). I believe it uses a combo of custom programming and a connection to
a 3rd party service. UPS was here the other day to move us to UPS OnLine
Advantage (with web Worldship) and the rep had all kinds of stories about
ERP systems they integrate with and "sure, we can connect to anything".
Right. He's a salesperson, so of course they can.
Unless they have Vantage specific programming staff and Progress experts and
Epicor blessing they're not going anywhere near my database. Trying to
write to the DB via ODBC is an invitation for disaster.
We "import" tracking numbers via a hand held scanner that scans the UPS
label. Costs are irrelevant for us since all UPS is done with a customer's
billing account (they pay).

Sales reps from U.P.S. want to integrate their software into our Vantage
system. Is anyone currently doing this and willing to share their opinions?
We are currently on 6.1 and ship out on a daily basis with charges to our
account number and our customer's account numbers. We were told that this
would allow the charges and tracking numbers to go straight from their
system to our invoices. Will this work and is there more involved than
U.P.S. leads us to believe? They make it sound really simple.
