Unigraphics Server

I would say that you have a perfect server for storing files. The main
things to worry about with a file server are network throughput, memory
cache, and your disk subsystem. If you are satisfied with the performance
of the system with regard to Unigraphics, then leave it alone. I would get
a newer server for Vantage if its' performance is what is lagging. Keeping
Vantage separate from file services isn't always needed, but when the files
are so big that the disk subsystem is dedicated to writing these files out,
I like to keep Vantage in it's own realm with it's own resources.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [Vantage] Unigraphics Server

Thank you everyone who responded to my Unigraphics computer question!

I now have a server question. Our current server is capable, but it's
slowly getting out-of-date. What type of server would you suggest to
support the Unigraphics files that we are going to need to save and backup
on it. We are quickly running out of hard drive space. We already upgraded
the hard drives on it last year. Now I know we're going to have to upgrade
it again soon. Especially, for the new Vantage upgrade (oops,
eManufacturing).

We currently have: (alright, don't laugh) PII 350
(2) 18 Gb
256 Mb
standard SCSI
card ( I don't remember what it is off hand)
NT 4.0

We are utilizing and backing up on it: AutoCAD
MasterCAM
translators (IGES)
ONLY interoffice
messaging, NOT Internet
employee files
Vantage 4.0, soon to
be 5.0 in March
shared access shop
calendar
use Seagate Backup

Any suggestions?
