Thanks for the info. DeAnna. I'll look into it. I think the 'line of site' issue may have us against a rock and a hard place from the get-go.

We had a microwave linking our two buildings. Our second facility basically
only ran data collection. It was a little slow. The microwave we had was
very inexpensive, we paid less than 3K installed. This was in 1995. The
company we got it from Innetix.
There website is www.innetix.com. I was not involved in the installation
so I don't know a lot of details. We no longer use it because we
consolidated our facilities, but we did run 4.0 on it.

Is anyone using, or is anyone aware of Wireless hardware that could connect
a LAN with a distance of 3.5 miles? We have a small manufacturing area
around 3.5 miles (as the crow flies) from our main plant, and would like to
connect about 5 or 6 PC's to our network for data collection and minimal
Vantage use.

Brent,
More and more of us seem to be bumping into this issue. Below are some links to Seagate about this error which I got from a .pdf file that Ted Kitch sent me. It seems to suggest that the fact that SQL-92 needs to login to progress, which Vantage reports can't do currently, causes this error. There are, however, other situations that cause this error. I found the error goes away when I use the Standard Merant 3.5 or 3.6 drivers (not the SQL-92 driver that comes with Progress).
A couple things you can try... 1. Link the new table in a subreport instead of the main part of the report and see what happens. 2. Use a Merant ODBC driver if you have one (costs $$). 3. Compile the report and uses the traveler.exe file in the Report Style Maintenance. 4. Export the needed table to a .dbf (or .csv), import it to Access, and then link the Crystal report to Access.
Also, please add your name to the list of users with issue#: 748545MPS and Error 599. This Issue is in 5.1, but I believe it exists in 5.0 also for those using the SQL-92 driver.
Please advise us as to how your doing with this... And here are the Seagate articles on the subject...

We are on Vantage 5.0.337 and encountering problems adding new tables
to a custom job traveler using Crystal v8. The errors are as follows:
Your current link configuration contains multiple starting points.
Please be advised that this is generally not supported.
More than one database driver has been used in this report. If you
want to change the database drivers, use Database/Convert
Database Drivers.
Also, please make sure that no SQL expression is added and no
server-side
group-by is performed.
Also, when I try to link the key fields of the new tables with the
existing ones, I get "this is not a key field" even though they are
all indexed fields.
When we were at Vantage 5.0.325, I was able to add new tables without
getting all these errors. However, I did need to load the full
version of Crystal reports on each workstation viewing the traveler
in order to resolve the error 599 issue.
Now, I am getting error 599 even on the workstations with the full
version of Crystal. There were times when I was able to view the
traveler after adding a field from the new table, but the printout
was screwed up and some detail lines were printing out of sequence.
I did see some of the past messages on ODBC errors but I believe my
situation is a little different. I am using the Merant 3.60 SQL92
v9.1A driver and was told by technical support there may be a new
patch for this and that I should also consider ugrading Progress to
9.1C.
I would welcome anyone's advice or comments on this.
Thanks.

I think this would probably be a little easier, unless I'm missing
something in your request:
Without going into too much detail, just make sure you have a sort on order
date (after the other items you wish to sort on), and show it in a group
footer. It will then only show the latest order date. If this is too
vague, I'll elaborate. Unless, of course, someone proves me wrong! :+)

fix it (and patience).

We are just now testing Vantage 6.1.512 and have found that the Production
Detail report will lock the client if you search for a job for the report.
If you just enter the job number it will work fine. Has anyone else seen
this? Is there a fix for it? This happens on all our test workstations.
Any insight appreciated.

We just migrated to Vantage 6.0.524. Most everything works as
expected...except the Production

this problem is unique to
our install. They say that they cannot reproduce it.

To the best of my knowledge, this problem does NOT occur here. If this is
happening to Vantage users here, they have not reported it to me. I can say

We are on the .511 patch.
For us the Production Detail report runs,
but, occasionally, it takes an extremely
long time to respond. During this delay,
it is possible for a user to conclude that
the client has locked up.
We have no idea what the cause might be.

Just wanted to update you guys on the Production Detail report lockup. We
finally realized if we would wait about 30 to 45 seconds after searching for
a job and selecting it the program would finally respond and you could print
the report. They have had us do all kinds of performance tuning to the
progress setup and make changes to the client setup as well. Nothing has
worked and now they want to see the database.
Everything else in the database runs really fast on the new server. I don't
think they can say the server or workstations do not have enough punch to
get the job done.
If anyone else is having this problem it might be good to contact Vantage
support just to let them know the problem isn't isolated.

Paul,
They were able to duplicate my problem of searching by Product Group.
They were not able to dubplicate the latency after selecting a job after
browse.
They are on patch 513 however so this problem may be fixed in that
patch.

I just tested selecting by product group. It was very slow and gave an
error " REPLACE/CONCAT may not result in data > 32000 bytes" for every job
it pulled in from that product group. After that I went back in to select
another group and my computer locked for about five minutes. After that I
received all the "REPLACE/CONCAT" errors again. Nuts??

We don't have report builder. I think I created one using access if it

Yes, that should do it. The RB report I have is a bit more complciated because it links and re-links Security and Menu tables via several layers of alias versions of those tables in order to portray how deeply in a menu tree which groups have access to. There is then a seperate report for who is in a group. But the Security table is the basis.

Since you use Access, here is a query I use for a summary report of my
users:
SELECT PUB_UserFile.Name, PUB_UserFile.Phone, PUB_UserFile.GroupList,
PUB_UserFile.UserDisabled, PUB_UserFile.OfficePhone,
PUB_UserFile.PwdExpiresDays, PUB_UserFile.PwdLastChanged,
PUB_UserFile.SecurityMgr, PUB_UserFile.CanChangePassword,
PUB_UserFile.AllowMultipleSessions,
PUB_UserFile.CustomizationPrivileges, PUB_UserFile.AllowReq
FROM PUB_UserFile;

We don't have report builder. I think I created one using access if it
is accurate and complete. I used the security file. I see that is what
you suggested using. So it should be right... right?

There is (or was anyway) a security.prl for a Report Builder report that
would show this - downloadable from the Vantage support downloads area.

Yes, that should do it. The RB report I have is a bit more complciated
because it links and re-links Security and Menu tables via several
layers of alias versions of those tables in order to portray how deeply
in a menu tree which groups have access to. There is then a seperate
report for who is in a group. But the Security table is the basis.

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to get away from an offline excel based WIP process, and use the
WIP / COS functionality.
We've gotten more disciplined with completing transactions for qty, but are
not capturing labor detail precisely enough to use detail.
What I'd like to do is to use qty completed x est labor hours = labor value
in the WIP.
What it looks like the function does is actual labor hours (as captured on
the floor) = labor value in the WIP.
Anyone invented this wheel before?

Hi,
You could use Backflushing depending on your environment. But I
would think the main focus would be getting the hours booked
correctly but in some environments backflushing is the only feasible
way.

Bryan,
Thought about that. If I use backflush the system has no other choice but to
use a std for labor, but.... if I have three steps, each of which adds 1/3 of
the value, and I've got the part at step two - I want to know I have 66% of
the value.
Do you know what happens if I select qty only instead of backflush?

Sorry that was what I meant, back flush the labour not the whole job.
I take it you mean three operations when referring to steps. Use
quantity only , this will assume the prod std hours when the qty is
booked.

Yes, I mean operations.
Thanks - appreciate it.
