UOM conversion process 9800 - 8.03.4xx to 9

Hi Bruce

Sorry for the delay in response but I attended the Advanced Programming class so I didn't check the group in the past few days.

We upgraded from 8.03 and I did the changes in the conversion program.

But you have to make sure you understand the new working of the UOM in 9 before you do the conversion

Hi Ephraim,

Thanks, for the reply.
I'm looking at the part specific setting now.

Just wondering if you upgraded from 8.03 to 9?
Did you set up the UOMs in the conversion process or make changes in 8.03.xx first?

I don't have a solution but I can tell you to be very careful, when we did
ours we kinda blew past it by just letting it do what ever it wanted and
well we eneded up with utterly useless UM's which we can't get rid of.

As Jose states, simplify your UM's.

And if you serialize parts, you might want to give them their own UM as they have to have decimals off. Alternatively, give parts with decimals using EA a different UM with decimals.

I think for you will be the best with 2 UOM 1) IN 2)BAR.
Set them up in one group and put the factor as part defined. Then you can specify on each part what the factor is.

We have the same but we buy bars and pay by KG and that's the way we set it up.

Yeah, I see that my first attempt is messy.
And in one current UOM it just would not work.

Here is the worst of it, any ideas would be appresicated...

We currently buy BARs of steel stock and inventory it in INCHES.
There are about 20 variations of this and effecting over 600 parts.
There are 32 variations:

IUM PUM PurchasingFactor
EA BI 3.25
EA BI 48
EA BI 96
EA BI 144
IN BI 5
IN BI 6
IN BI 6.5
IN BI 8
IN BI 12
IN BI 18
IN BI 21.5
IN BI 24
IN BI 36
IN BI 39
IN BI 48
IN BI 66
IN BI 72
IN BI 78
IN BI 82
IN BI 96
IN BI 120
IN BI 144
IN BI 156
IN BI 180
IN BI 192
IN BI 216
IN BI 240
IN BI 244
IN BI 252
IN BI 288
IN BI 294
IN BI 300

Purchasing is used to buying bars now.
I'm thinking I should get them used to buying feet?
And... start making changes in version 8.03 now?

Thanks,

Bruce
