Updating clients with minor patches

We are looking to apply a patch to our system. We just upgraded to the 2023.1 release. We want to apply the .29 patch to that (currently on patch .4). The documentation says nothing about updating the client - do we need to redeploy our client or is that only necessary with release upgrades?

The client should automatically update the next time the user logs in.

If you are going from 2023.1 → 2024.1 full client install is required.

We have the /skip flag on our shortcuts so the clients won’t actually update automatically. But that answers my question - we’ll need to grab the new client files and deploy them to our users.

Hi there,

So would full client reinstall be required when upgrading Release within the same Version e.g. from 2023.1 to 2023.2 or 2024.1 to 2024.2

Or is full client install only required when upgrading Version? e.g. 2023.x to 2024.x

Both typically.

The last segment, 2023.2.12 usually just does a patch.

Great - that’s what I thought but thanks for confirming!

So a patch applied say 2023.2.36 to 2023.2.41 applied to a KineticProd virtual server would be fine, then in admin console apply it to the Test instance and do a stop and start of task agent service, sound correct? I am trying to deploy patch 41 of 2023.2 to my test instance first without impacting on same server Kinetic prod users. The installation of the EXE on the prod server does not impact existing users, right?

You can install it on the server and it doesn’t impact the clients. It only impacts the client when you change the version in the config and deploy the app.
