Updating from windows XP to Windows 7

I am in the process of writing up an article about this...

Pre 9.05.701, the crystal client only works with the traditional 32 bit
Epicor Client, which is irrelevant to the version of the operating system.
It only the physical client where the compatibility is different. If for
some reason you are using the mfgsys64.exe then you will run into a problem
trying to use crystal prior to 9.05.701 unless you can get the 64-bit
version of crystal reports runtime, which is not provided by epicor.

However, with 9.05.701, the use of the Crystal Reports 2010 SP3 runtime
allows for the use of the mfgsys64.exe client and be able to print using
this 64-bit client.

The use of the 64-bit Runtime versus the 32-bit runtime cannot both be
installed from my experience, so it is totally dependent on which one you
choose to use.

However, there is no specific reason to use the 64-bti client over the
32-bit client as of yet, I suspect down the line this will change.

If you have trouble running the 32-bit client, I would suggest making sure
you setup the program to run in XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Jackie, since you speak with Epicor about the upgrade a good question to
them is if Crystal Reports 2008 (or SAP Business Objects if you like) which
is used to build customized reports in Epicor 905 is compatible with 64-bit
client machines (or servers). My experience is that it runs only in 32-bit
clients. If you don't use Crystal at all then you can forget about this and
you are good to go.

Has anyone in this group more info on this? Please share.

We are running Vantage 8.03.408B. Today I was entering Labor Transactions and everything was going well. Then on one of the Time Details, as I was saving the entry, Vantage locked up. After about 5 or 10 minutes I got out of Vantage. When I logged back in, the transaction that I was working on was not there, which was no surprise to me. However, the transaction that I had done just prior (Op 20 for 22 pcs) was there in the Labor Time detail, and on the Job Tracker/Job Details/Operations/Labor Transactions, which shows 76 pcs completed ( 10 + 22 + 22 + 22), but the detail did not add up to the summary on Job Tracker/Job Details/Operations/List, which shows 54 pcs completed.

Now, anytime that I go into the Labor Entry and try to add, change, or delete anything in the Time Detail, Vantage completely stops responding when I go to Save or confirm the Deletion. I close out of Vantage, log back in, and the transactions all show up in the detail, but not in the summary. I have had IT stop the services and re-start them. If I was trying to delete, then that one will now be gone and my summary and detail match correctly.

However, I then try to add another Labor Detail, and when I go to save, it stops responding, and we have to start all over again.

Does anyone know how to correct this?? I cannot complete any jobs until we get this error corrected. This is very frustrating and time consuming.

Thanks, Cindy
Here is some additional information: I tried to delete one of the Time Details again, and I let it work for 30 minutes. Since I can find how you can attach a file anymore, I will type the error message.

"The following application error was encountered:
4GL STOP condition: The Server application has returned an error. (7243) (7241)"

The detail says: "Error Detail: 4GL STOP condition: The Server application has returned an error. (7243) (7241).
Stack Trace: at Epicor.Mfg.UI.Adapters.LaborAdapter.Delete (DataRow dr) at Epicor.Mfg.UI.App.LaborEntry.LaborTransaction.Delete()"

Anyone know what this is and how I can fix it??

Thanks, Cindy

I've had this happen to me twice. The problem also caused MRP to lock up. Both times, while waiting for Epicor Support to respond, I went in through ODBC and deleted the offending labor transactions and everything was fine after that. I don't recommend doing this because messing directly with the data in the tables could make things even worse, but we were desperate to get jobs out to the floor and I made a backup beforehand just in case.

Something else I just remembered, deleting the corrupted data was not easy. I can't remember the exact steps I took, but I remember that I couldn't just delete the corrupted record through ODBC. I had to mess with it for over an hour before I finally got it deleted.

Thanks to both Jose and Steven for your input. Apparently, we had locked records and corrupted data in the database as well. We finally got the locked records and the database corrupted transactions deleted with the help of an outside service. Now I just have to finish the month end transactions!

Thanks again for your help!!

Hi Cindy,

I am having the same problems and would prefer to go with an outside service to repair the corrupt records. Would you be able to tell me what company/ consultant you use? I am in California, but I have spoken to one consultant that is able to remote into my system from another state. It would be great to contact someone who has experience.

Thank you,
Betty

Currently we are running Windows XP 32 bit. using Epicor 905.606A. Due to contract expiration, we will upgrade to Windows 7, 64 bit. I called Epicor to confirm this is compatable with 905. Answer was yes, but being the skeptic and reading about the issues when upgrades were made, thought I 'd throw this out there.  Did anyone have issues when / if they upgraded.Â

We run a mix of Windows XP Pro 32-bit, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

No issues at all.

Currently we're using Kanban to report production. We've decided to utilize the MES menu and start issuing job numbers to do production Reporting and start scheduling.   We want to use barcodes to capture qty produced, operator responsible for production and resource.  Since we've only used barcodes in Epicor to transfer inventory from / to locations, I was hoping someone could please send a quick outline of how to begin.Â
Our end goal is to become paperless or as paperless as alloweable.Â
Thanks in advance.

We use the Crystal Report 2008 Runtime SP3 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
without issue.

Jackie, since you speak with Epicor about the upgrade a good question to
them is if Crystal Reports 2008 (or SAP Business Objects if you like)
which is used to build customized reports in Epicor 905 is compatible
with 64-bit client machines (or servers). My experience is that it runs
only in 32-bit clients. If you don't use Crystal at all then you can
forget about this and you are good to go.

Has anyone in this group more info on this? Please share.

Vassilis, that's a great point. We do run Crystal Reports 2008. According to Epicor, it's the only compatable program for 905.Â
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will call with this question and post their response.Â
