Updating my test server to 9.05.702

Cool... Thanks Ned, I'll give that a try on my next go-around (probably next week).

As it turns out, in ONE of the log files, there is a single line that says something about running out of memory. Although this box has 24G RAM, the HD is pretty small and only has a tiny swap file... I'll find a larger HD and try it again.

An interesting experience. In previous update scenarios (and I've done a few), the Schema Change portion of the program went pretty much without any hitches. Start it, go have a nice leisurely dinner on the company tab, and come back to see it finished.

Ahh, the good old days.

This time, each piece of the Schema Change gave an error, and then exited, saying check the log. Well, the logs didn't say anything about errors, so I would run Schema Change again... and each time it made it through the NEXT piece before erroring again. I'm starting at 9.04.507, so when I began it the first time it said "Database Level 9.04.500" and "Program Level 9.05.702". After the first error (and color returning to my face) when I ran it a second time it said, "Database level 9.05.100" and still "Program level 9.05.702". After each time the "Database Level" went up a notch, so the program was working properly(?), but taking its own error messages a little too seriously.

It's on the last one now (applying 905-700DF.SQL), so I'll let you know how it finishes.

Anyone else give this a shot yet?

Generally, for SQL systems, I don't use the schema change tool, I run the
SQL scripts one by one directly on the SQL DB through the SQL Server
Management Suite.

I have not run into any problems other than getting an error about a unique
primary key while running the conversions after schema changes.

Ned,

2. Where are these SQL scripts ? I would like to try this method.

I find it to be faster, just because it's using less layers of
communication.

Scripts are DB dependant, and are located in
\Epicor905\32\ClientServer\db\SQL or
\Epicor905\32\ClientServer\db\SQLUnicode.

The scripts are named with the program level names, ex: 905-600DF.SQL

So if you are on 9.05.605 then you will need to run 905-700DF.SQL

There are some other scripts in there, but in general that's all that needs
to be done, I have found fewer errors and the SQL reporting of any errors is
much more clear.
