Updating Report Styles Kinetic

Why is it so difficult to upload a report style change in the browser? It was tricky in classic, but once I figured out to let it just download to the desktop, and upload from the desktop, it worked fine. That same trick does not work in kinetic browser. What is the process for downloading a report style, making an edit and uploading it again? I can only do this in classic.

I have tried downloading the zip file, then extracting it. Make an edit to the style, save and rezip it the same exact way. Try to upload, nope. Archive not found. Maybe it only wants the one file I edited. So I zip that up by itself, still no archive detected.

It should upload. make sure you’re not re-zipping an extra /reports/reports/

I agree!

I tried these three combinations before I gave up and went back to calssic.

top is correct:

RDLs in here just like the OG file downloaded:

\reports\CustomReports\SOMEREPORTNAMEHERE

also file MUST be named reports.zip not reports(9).zip

That was it! Gah… I hate Kinetic.

does classic take any zip file name? sounds like a parity issue.

You don’t have to zip anything for classic however the report does have to exist in the exact directory reports\CustomReports\etc

The browser is a real pain for uploading reports. I use the kinetic power tools and it works great. It is just the classic menu, where you do not have to zip the files. You can download the power tools here: Kinetic Downloads

It is a lifesaver for me, for some reason our reports take forever to run when we upload them in the browser. The classic/power tools works though. With classic going away power tools is the only way to upload reports for us.

With 25.2 the Kinetic method has been better with the download/design tool working. “Generate for Design” then in the System Monitor select the report and in the overflow select, “Design SSRS Report”. It’ll download the report and let you open it for design without having to unzip and rezip it up.

No, no zipping at all in classic.

Strictly normal browser behavior. I am unaware of any browser that can download a whole folder let alone multiple files without zipping it into one.

And in SSRS Report Design > Preview > Publish

Yes, works like Classic mostly in that you can generate for design, download, edit, preview, and publish.

Good point. Possible but non-standard. <input type="file" webkitdirectory />

Or a browser extension.

This works better than expected. Glad you commented on it. Much better than the zip juggling.
