Upgrade 5.2 to 6 problem

The problem is the first sign on to the client. What the instructions
do not tell you is that when doing the first sign on DO NOT run the
conversions, just cancel out. Otherwise it creates a blank database.
This can still be worked around but you have to go in and delete more
then just the db file. Support can provide all the files, if I
remember correctly the are all mfgsys60 files with different
extensions.

Upgraded Version 5.2 to 6 I follow this instruction and use the version 6 CD
to upgrade a copy of the 5.2 db. When I go to set the location for the
version 6 db c:\epicor\mfgsys60\mfgsys.db I receive an error that the db
already exists and to continue delete the db. I do this and it allows me to
proceed. Then when I click the next button to upgrade I receive and error
"cannot find or open file c:\epicor\mfgsys60\mfgsys.db error=2 (43)" this is
the same file I had to delete to proceed before.

Anyone had this sort of problem???
how are you moving your 5.2 data ?

Are you using the Backup/Restore method ?

Charles

Shut down the Db and copy and paste in to a folder c:\copy epicor. There is
no problem in the reading of the 5.2 data.

Bear with me its been a couple of months since I upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0.
I had the same problem.

First, from what I remember "cut and paste" is not the preferred method for
moving a database.

Second, the instructions leave some things out. I believe the database you
are being warned about is the sample database that comes with the initial
installation. When it goes to upgrade your copy of your database it finds
the initial database already in place. Delete the initial database in the
mfgsys60 folder. Make sure you follow the directions on where you put your
copy of your database so the update can find the data. As long as you are
pointing to the correct location of your copied database it should run fine.
Make sure you are using a copy in case of problems. You might want to ask
tech support (or check the web site) for instructions on how to copy the
database. The "cut and paste" method is supposed to have some problems.

If you copy a database to a new location in Progress version 9.1d you have
to run the prostruct repair on the database. It only takes a second to
issue the command and then the database will re-do it's pointers to the new
location. After this you should be fine.
