Upgrade from 305 to 400 need help!

Go to the following:

ftp://ftpmpls.epicor.com

Log in with your Epicor user id and password.

Navigate to the Vantage/Dump_Load Folder.

Open up the appropriate folder and download the .zip file.

Extract the file to an appropriate location (preferably on your Vantage Server).

There is a document that gives detailed instructions on how to perform the Dump and Load. If you have ODBC security on your database you will also need the ODBC kit that goes with your version. That will be in the Vantage/ODBC folder. It also gives detailed instructions.

If you have any difficulty or don't quite understand the instructions I won't mind you notifying me directly. I do both of these on a regular basis. In fact, I have my procedures down to less than an hour to do a complete dump and load and set the ODBC authority for a 4 ½ GB database. It is not bad once you have done it a few times. In fact, it is something that should be done on a regular basis. It is sort of like doing a defrag on a hard drive. A little more complex but not bad once you understand it.

Ensure you download the correct version.

I think you need to get the utility kit from Epicor.

Charlie,

It appears you may have a corrupt index. I would do a dump and load on 305
and then attempt the upgrade.

Alright so I think I have all the upgrades to the actual server made but now
I am trying to log in. and I get the fallowing error. "The system needs
upgraded, please check with your administrator."

I have installed the three pieces that you need to have before you install
the client 3.0 .net, Crystal Runtime, and the web service. But I still get
this error message. Any Suggestions?

Not to worry, most non-employees can't troubleshoot that kind of stuff since
most non-employees don't do that many installations to know what comes up
for
possible problems and errors while doing them, and what is a quick fix for
someone who works there can be a 3-4 hour task for someone who doesn't.

Also, if you have both 10.0B and 10.1B on the same machine, make sure that
you
have the Schema holder tool pointing to the right version folder of
progress.
The EPICOR\OE101B instead of EPICOR\OE100B

So I'm back to the schema Change step and I am getting the following error.

"Database c:\epicor\mfgsys803\db\mfgsys is a 32-bit dbkey database. (13893)
This codebase cannot connect to an open 32-bit dbkey database (13894)

I confirmed that my admin service is stopped. I even set it to manual and
restarted the server just to make sure.

I checked over the command line and it seems to be pointing to the correct
location for files per the instructions below. Are there any other
suggestions for this error?

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Re: Upgrade from 305 to 400 need help!

Charlie, a few things...

1- The install problem you initially had while on the domain, try this for a
solution:

Summary: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file
Book: Support Solutions
Page: 9054MPS

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file Version 8.03.x

This error occurs when trying to launch an executable file, typically the
MfgSys
Server Install exe from the install DVD. Page number 8743MPS also deals with
this issue. If the steps in 8743MPS do not resolve the issue try the steps
below. These instructions are the solution that Microsoft provide.

FROM MICROSOFT:
Remove the software restriction policy, and also delete the keys in the
registry
for the policy.

These are located at: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer

Anything that is listed under there is a restriction for an executable. In
this
test case, the customer deleted any keys there and the installation went
fine.

2- Are you a progress installation or an MS SQL installation? If you are SQL
make sure you UNCHECK the box for Unicode during the installation unless you
are
already Unicode, and if you are then you will know it.

3- The installation program doesn't correctly create the command line in
your
Icons for Admin tools and schema change tools, you will need to edit them to
point to the correct locations of your mfgsys.ini and *.pf files, otherwise
you
will get errors.

4- When running things like conversions and schema changes, it is best to
have
your appservers turned off, and if you are an MS SQL installation, I would
recommend manually running the schema changes in SQL instead of using the
tool.

I'm working on upgrading a test server from 8.03.305 to 8.03.40X i'm am fallowing the instructions as stated in the manual. But when i go to run the file that is the actual server upgrade i get an error that states. "Windows can not access the specified, device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." well seeing as that i am a domain admin i dont believe this is actually a permissions issue. I'm running this file off the DVD they send you in the mail to do the upgrade.

Any help any one.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Whenever I come across that error, I copy the relevent file(s) onto
the server I actually working on, then right-click, select Properties
and click "Unblock". That clears it. Don't know if you can do this
with the files still on the DVD.

I had the exact same thing.
I even did the unblock suggestion, but to no avail.
Even though I was logged into the console as the domain admin, it would still only work if I right-clicked on the setup.exe and select RUN AS and re-enter the credentials of domain\administrator with the correct password.

I have no idea why, but this was it, every time. It also did not matter what server this was on, test or live.

I ran into this with one of my machines a few months ago. I am trying to give you the right answer but I can't remember for sure. It had something to do with a local security policy getting set inadvertently. If I remember right execute the local security policy under control panel. If you have anything under software restriction policies, just right click Software Restriction Policies and select Delete Software Restriction Policies. I believe if you have anything in there it will keep the Vantage setup from running because it is being recognized as a 16 bit program.

Two more things to try.

1. Open and command prompt window and run the Setup.exe program. Don't run the .exe that brings up the install menu just the one that installs the mfgsys. I don't have the DVD handy so I can't tell you exactly which one it is. This will tell you if windows explorer has any software execution restrictions.

2. Uninstall the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration

Try number 1 first. If that works you are set to go. If you ever use the server to access the internet (not advisable) then you most definitely want to do number 2 above or it will be a real pain to browse for anything.

I think you have already tried copying the data locally and ensuring the program is unblocked. Right?

Is your local (intranet) domain the same as your internet domain? If so then the system may not be able to detect your local domain correctly and is restricting program installation. If that is the case you may have to open internet explorer and manually add your domain as an intranet domain. If you are unsure how to do this let me know.

I think you have already tried copying the data locally and ensuring the
program is unblocked. Right?

Is your local (intranet) domain the same as your internet domain? If so then
the system may not be able to detect your local domain correctly and is
restricting program installation. If that is the case you may have to open
internet explorer and manually add your domain as an intranet domain. If you
are unsure how to do this let me know.

Two more things to try.

1. Open and command prompt window and run the Setup.exe program. Don't run
the .exe that brings up the install menu just the one that installs the
mfgsys. I don't have the DVD handy so I can't tell you exactly which one it
is. This will tell you if windows explorer has any software execution
restrictions.

2. Uninstall the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration

Try number 1 first. If that works you are set to go. If you ever use the
server to access the internet (not advisable) then you most definitely want
to do number 2 above or it will be a real pain to browse for anything.

I ran into this with one of my machines a few months ago. I am trying to
give you the right answer but I can't remember for sure. It had something to
do with a local security policy getting set inadvertently. If I remember
right execute the local security policy under control panel. If you have
anything under software restriction policies, just right click Software
Restriction Policies and select Delete Software Restriction Policies. I
believe if you have anything in there it will keep the Vantage setup from
running because it is being recognized as a 16 bit program.

I'm working on upgrading a test server from 8.03.305 to 8.03.40X i'm am
fallowing the instructions as stated in the manual. But when i go to run the
file that is the actual server upgrade i get an error that states. "Windows
can not access the specified, device, path, or file. You may not have
appropriate permissions to access the item." well seeing as that i am a
domain admin i dont believe this is actually a permissions issue. I'm
running this file off the DVD they send you in the mail to do the upgrade.

Any help any one.

Good Morning Everyone,

I am confused! Maybe someone else has run into this. I am trying to
find out when the user clicks on the counter sale button on the order
entry screen. So far my bmp looks like:

SalesOrder.ChangeCounterSale

Pre-Processing

Enabled - checked

Prevent endless loops - checked

Conditions: the ttOrderhed.CounterSale field has been changed from
false to true.

Actions: show information message based on the test template

When the user goes to click on the field nothing happens and when the
reclick on it (to change it from checked to unchecked) nothing happens.

So here is the part I really do not understand: If I change the
Conditions line to:

Conditions: the ttOrderhed.CounterSale field has been changed from true
to false.

Then I get the message box to show up when I remove the check mark from
the Counter Sales box (just the opposite of what I want). So why can't
I just swap the conditions (like I was originally trying to do) and have
it work?

Thanks in Advance!

Does the original "false to true" test work after the check box has been toggle to true and back to false once? If so it may be the initial state of the field was null not false. Just a wild guess...I'm a ways away from BPMs yet...but easy to check.

No it does not work even after the check mark is in the box. I have
also tried it from null to true and that does not catch it either.

Has anyone ever triggered a bpm from a check box. How did you implement
that. It should be the same.

Thanks!

Charlie,

I am out of ideas. Do you know is there are any domain policies in affect that would prohibit the installation? We looked at local policies but not domain. That is the last idea that I have.

restricting program installation.

NO software restriction policies defined. Still not working. Anything else I
should look for?
