Upgrade on Test Server

Thanks for the warning. I have a post it note on the screen already. I
saw previous postings from a few of you that had done that exact thing.

On a related note:

There was some talk about starting vantage in single user mode. Is that
just for the first time you logon as system manager? (Put the -1 in
the connections section of the vtg file and stop the server services -
correct?). Or is that something I could have done already? I have the
Client set up on my server.

Just make sure you turn crash protection back on per the installation
instructions - I had to go through the whole install again because we
turned
it back on AFTER the database conversions.....go figure.

Did you start the database without crash protection? Helps it run
faster.

I am running the IDXBUILD, before the Schema changes on a 5.0 upgrade.
I am stuck on sorting and index building group 3. I checked this at
7:30PM last night and this is where it was. Looking at the task manager
it looks like it is still running. Anyone else have this? I know that
the Schema changes are supposed to take forever; but is this supposed to
as well. Bellow are my pc specs (the only spare 2000 pc I have). I

I've never had the IDXBUILD stop at any point before. Always took under an hour, but that was on a Dual 400mhz with 512MB RAM.

I did find tuning the database before any schema or index rebuilds helped.
Specifically the bump up the -b parameter giving progress as much RAM as
possible.

I had the same problem. I did my test on my notebook with 256mb of memory.
Tec told me a couple of times that win 2000 needs at a minimum 256mb to run.
My IDXBUILD took 31hours on my test. My data file was 2.5 gig. If you
think a cell phone is distracting, try watching a notebook battery gage on
your drive home. My schema change took 11 hours and my data conversion took
7 hours. When I did it live my IDXBUILD took only 5 hours on the server
(1gig of memory). But I had to abort my schema change on the server after
22hours. I was running raid 5 and you don't want to do that on the schema
changes. I ran my schema changes on my notebook and it took less than the 7
hours it took the first time. Go figure. The data conversion took about
the same (overnight Sunday) on both the notebook and the server.
