Upgrade to 5.1 or 5.2?

Kelly,
Our Production Coordinator is excited about some changes in the Scheduling
module and wants to get to 5.2. I also saw a new module, (Customer
Relations), in the What's new that we have been wanting.
I am planning to go from 5.0 to 5.2 by having 5.1 & 5.2 on my test server.
I can convert the live data to 5.1 on my test server, while I install 5.2 on
the live server. Then convert the 5.1 data to 5.2 data on the live server.
Sounds crazy, but I hope it saves time in the long run, without corrupting
data.

Subject: [Vantage] Upgrade to 5.1 or 5.2?

Hello -

We are currently running Vantage 5.00. We considering upgrading to either
5.1 or all the way to 5.2.

Is anyone currently running 5.2 live (not just testing)? Thoughts,
comments, suggestions???

What are the major differences between 5.0, 5.1& 5.2? Has anyone documented
the differences?

I appreciate any help.....

Sincerely,

Sorry just testing 5.20 but FWIW we decided one big change beat distracting
our people with a lot of little ones so we are going from 4.0 to 5.20 in one
jump. Aside from the Crystal 8.5 issues I don't suspect 5.20 is any worse
(buggy) than the prior versions and probably a whole lot better plus there
are some really nice features in 5.20. No facts (yet) just an opinion.

We're jumping from 3, and have elected to upgrade to 5.1, because 5.2
introduces new workbench features that would make the upgrade even more
interesting. The features look nice, but some may require significant work
procedure changes, whereas most of the basic functionality from 3 to 5.1
seems to have been enhanced and built upon, not overhauled.

However, I am happy to see epicor taking strides to improve the efficiency
of the vantage user interface. We'll probably jump to 5.2 sometime early to
mid next year.

Of course, if I was at version 5 right now, I'd consider skipping 5.1 and
going to 5.2.

Kelly,
The easiest way I can think of to summarize the changes is by using the "What's New in 5.1" and "What's New in 5.2" documents, which are available on Epicor's download section for each respective version. Those documents will specify the changes from each previous release.

Well, here's my two cents on the topic Kelly. We are running Vantage
Release 5.00.322. I just installed Progress 9.1D and Vantage 5.2 on Monday
(plus the latest patches). It is my desire to go live in the next month on
5.2. My understanding is that Epicor doesn't support the jump from 5.0 to
5.2, but rather from 5.1 to 5.2. Having said that, I did get some
assistance from them in taking my backup.1 (Copy of my live data) file from
release 5.0 and ran the conversion and schema changes to go directly to 5.2.
Had I done this over the weekend I would be live with no problems on 5.2
today. I will now probably do this over again exactly as I have just done
and take the plunge to 5.2 from 5.0 on the first available weekend that I
can. Seemed to go off without a hitch for me.
