UPS WorldShip and Vantage

Mark,

I can't remember exactly how I did the mapping but I did following the UPS
instructions and it worked for me. I do not know if I mapped multiple tables
or not. But the reason we are not using the Keyed Import into UPS is because
the Order Header has a Ship To but the Order\Line\Release may be different
so the question was how do we pull that in, in Keyed Import. So like most
people have responded they use some type of middleware to make that happen,
Access, XML, etc...

We are just started the Implementation of this. In the Work Order we
received it was for 24 hours worth of time, but my expectation of total time
should be 8 hours at most. It took the Consultant 2 hours to remotely to the
install and setup InSite and I figure the 6 other hours will be training for
the shipping staff.

I decided to put this off until after the holidays so we do not have
knowledge lost during the holidays.

I can let you know my progress as I go through it. But I have tested it on
my Test DB and just to be able to pull Order Shipping info into Customer
Shipment Entry and have the Tracking Number and Freight Charges get back to
the Shipping Document and Invoice will be such a time saver (we manually do
it now, though reading the bar code from the Manifest label via scanner
could be used) we think it is going to be well worth the cost in the long
run. Plus we then can use the Vantage Packing Stations to be able to ship
UPS or Fed-Ex and are not tied into going to that particular Manifest PC to
ship it with that carrier, we like that flexibility.

Were you using keyed import? I seem to recall that you can only choose one
ODBC source and from there I couldn't see where to map from multiple tables.

How many consulting hours did it take? The price didn't seem too bad but we
were spooked by the $$$ for people to come out to install/setup; the
consulting was more than double the package. It looks like a good product
and
we heard good things about InSite but now InSite belongs to Epicor and quite
a
bit of functionality has moved to standard Vantage.

I've had no trouble getting the ODBC to work but once you do, it wasn't all
that helpful. At least the last time I tried, WorldShip would only link to one
data table when doing a keyed import. What makes it even more challenging is
when one line item is shipping UPS Red and another is plain old UPS Ground.

Currently, we run a VB program to update a SQL Server table that WorldShip
uses for input. I'm currently working on a BPM to update WorldShip. When
someone clicks Save on an order, it will launch an asynchronous .Net routine
to see if any of the lines are shipping via UPS. If so, it will add/update
records in the shipment table for Worldship. 8.03.400 has aligned many of the
fields with WorldShip and I'm updating the program now for that.

I'm starting to see how BPM is very powerful for doing things. It looks like
I'll cut down on some of the screen customization in favor of using a BPM hook
instead.

When I did try it I did not have any issues. I set up the ODBC connection
and was able to read the Tables. But we then decided to move to using InSite
Manifest to replace WorldShip and Fed-Ex. We are going to go live with this
January of next year and it looks like it everything we need it to be. Talks
directly to Vantage to send back Tracking Numbers and Freight Charges to the
Order\Line\Release it is shipping. Plus we still just use Vantage to do
Customer Shipments so the Shipping Information is pulled in from
Order\Line\Release, which in turns feeds this information to InSite to get
the Tracking Number and Freight Charges.

Can't remember exactly, but we also had trouble, I ended up writing a small app that acts as a go-between from Access to Progress/vantage( Worldship uploads to Access, my app uploads Access to Vantage( shipping info such as Misc Charge, Tracking Number).
