This creates a lot of additional work but It can be done.

The P.O. is issued as normal.

I've setup an additional clearing account specially for items purchased on a P.O., this account
is charged when the Credit Card company is paid,

then I issue a credit memo against the vendor the P.O. was generated against, charging the
Credit card Clearing account and to clear the activity from this vendor I generate a zero check
on plane paper.

We a Credit card clearing account - the invoice for the purchase order is created when the charge comes through on the credit card.. then the credit card charge is posted to this credit card clearing account then the adjustment to get rid of the invoice for the purchase order is adjusted to this same account number ... so they wash out.

We process the PO just like normal. We enter an invoice to the credit card
company for the PO using the PO number as the invoice number. When we
reconcile the statement, we have a procedure to ensure that we don't enter
the visa receipt twice. When we pay the CC company, the invoice for the PO
is printed on the check.

may only have one or two purchases ever.

We set the vendor up as a purchase point for the credit card vendor.

Bob, We have a few material receipts each month from a small number of
vendors that we pay with credit card, either via internet or phone. So I
have to deal with these every month so AAP and Received Not Invoiced
balance. Be glad to email you our procedure off-line if you'd like?

Yes.

You set up a PO as usual. The main vendor is the credit card and use the
purchase point for the vendor. This make it easy for receiving because the
PO will show the vendor the goods were bought from. You may want some sort
of flag so payables will know it is the credit card, such as a line in the
address.

When the goods are received it creates the PUR-STK, PUR-MAT or whatever
transaction.

When we enter the CC stmt we pull in all the receipt transactions and the
invoice is posted.

So if you have various vendors that you purchase things with an American express then you would have one vendor with multiple purchase points?

Of course in my first post said we do this seldom and I only have about 5 or

Yes.

You set up a PO as usual. The main vendor is the credit card and use the
purchase point for the vendor. This make it easy for receiving because the
PO will show the vendor the goods were bought from. You may want some sort
of flag so payables will know it is the credit card, such as a line in the
address.

When the goods are received it creates the PUR-STK, PUR-MAT or whatever
transaction.

When we enter the CC stmt we pull in all the receipt transactions and the
invoice is posted.

Generally we use the credit card for non-routine vendors only. Such vendors
may only have one or two purchases ever.

We set the vendor up as a purchase point for the credit card vendor.

We a Credit card clearing account - the invoice for the purchase order is
created when the charge comes through on the credit card.. then the credit
card charge is posted to this credit card clearing account then the
adjustment to get rid of the invoice for the purchase order is adjusted to
this same account number ... so they wash out.

We have a lot of credit card payments. Here is what works for us:

We have an AP account called "PAY BY CREDIT CARD". (If we have vendors that
only accept credit cards, we set that up in Vendor Maintenance.) We use
this AP account for any invoice that will be paid with a credit card. That
way, when you print an aging report for that account only, it SHOULD match
your credit card statement.

We also have a separate bank account set up for "paying" these invoices.
The cash account in Bank Account Maintenance is set to a liability account
named "CREDIT CARD PAYABLE". We pay the invoices using the manual checks
option. When an invoice is "paid", the Credit Card Payable account will be
credited. When we receive our monthly statement, we enter the invoice by
debiting this account. If all goes well, the balance of the account will
zero out every month.

By using this method, we are able to use the actual vendor on the PO. We
are only paying them differently.
