Using Vantage without jobs

Perhaps they are not perceiving enough benefit to them directly from the system. I've seen cases where the production side views the system as purely for the benefit of the "bean counters" or front office and not for them....yet they have (they feel) all the overhead burden to make it work. Until they see something in it that helps them...or...they start to be held accountable for something only the system can allow them to accomplish they will resist. Often these cases are also a red herring (blame it on the system) for other more fundimental issues. Issues that only top management can usually ferret out and deal with.

From an IT perspective I think if I were faced with this I would be looking for reports or inquiries I could provide from the system that would make their life easier and become indispensible to them....as long as they learn to manage jobs that is. Or your management could adopt our company motto..."If you are not willing to solve the problem, then you are the problem to be solved."

Well,

I want to use jobs but our production department does not. They say it's to difficult to manage them. I have been fighting this battle for a while because they just can't seem to manage jobs.

We have too many open jobs and the information is not accurate in them, materials do not get issued to them and finished parts do not come out of them.

Does anybody have any suggestions besides a bullet to the head?

Thanks,
Jasper

I guess you could receive everything to stock and ship from stock. I
just don't know if you would be using much of Vantage to make it worth
it.

I guess what do you do now? We have always used jobs before ever going
to vantage. I just don't know what you would use to keep track of your
operations.

Well, good luck with that...I say let them NOT do it and see what issues
they run into (like what to purchase and when). What's the point of
having a software package if they don't utilize the most crucial part of
the package.

Maybe what you need to do is first clean up the open jobs, the mess,
whatever, and then move forward from there. Figure out how to get to a
clean slate and then show them how to use the job functionality
CORRECTLY.

Maybe I should just eliminate the job altogether and see how they can manage it.

That should be a good eye opener!
