Hi John,
Interesting comments!
JFI.....
Over here in the UK we only have about 60 Vantage
users with no more than half dozen on V3, and as far
as I'm aware no-one live yet on V5 - we're all
watching you guys!!!!. There is some similar concern
over here since many users are small jobshops -
exactly the reason why they bought Vantage in the
first place, although medium size companies like
ourselves are looking forward to the coming
enhancements with V5/5.1

Does anyone have any specs on how many customers are running V 3.0, V 4.0,
and V 5.0 ?

I'm curious how many companies are actually 'Live' on each version. It
seems like many people have installed V 5.0 on test machines for the purpose
of kicking the tires and have not yet installed it on their live systems.

Thanks,

Todd Anderson

We have 5.0 on a project server and practiced a little bit waiting for the
majority of "bugs" to be ironed out before going "live".

We're still on 3.0 and have only kicked the tires a few times on 4.0. Version 5.0 is still in the box in a drawer.

Todd;

We are on V 4.0. Likely will remain here for a while. We have bought into
Calvin Dekker's group EDI project which is written for V 4.0 There are
things we are interested in, in V 5.0 but sounds like the bugs aren't worked
out far enough yet. Once the EDI programs are ported to V 5.0 and more of
the bugs are out we'll move.

Todd:

We are 3.0

I'm installing 4.0 now; hope to go live in one week.

Want to go to 5.0, but still have nervous feelings. (Epicor says that Joe is using Terminal Server and that's the reason for Data Collection headaches for that type of user).

So I'm up in the air. Really want 5.0 to get the costing improvement going...

V4.0 here since conversion from Classic in Sept.
I highly doubt we will even think of 5.0 before next Sept.
This will depend greatly on bug situation..
No way that I could ever get a "test" system approved.

Data collection is a bug that has a work around though. Try posting
a standard cost rollup... Try creating a job that has the same job
number that MRP will someday use... Try to get a discrepant qty to
backflush material... Try to run a labor edit report in under 20
minutes... Try to print a standard cost replace edit list in less
than 10 hours... Try to print a ledger that doesn't double space
and take 500 sheets of paper...

You only spent a bazillion dollars for maintenance. If you install V5 now,

Plus this isn't true. I know of at least one other user that

We were going to upgrade to 5.0 (from 4.0) last weekend, but I'm putting it
off until
April 21 because we are FINALLY getting another server! We have 1 server
and have everything from AutoCAD, MasterCAM, Calendar software, Translation
software, to Vantage on it. I sent out a memo to everyone that explained
the bugs with 5.0 and that the installation will make the server very slow
while it is running. Then I also explained that our server is running out
of resources, so after the upgrade the whole network would run slower.
Needless to say this worried the people who keep track of our $$$$ at work.
So, we're getting another server! Yeah for us!!

In general...

1. Beta testers don't test everything.
2. Beta testers may not have a large database like ours.
3. Beta testers don't necessarily want to test the software
as much as they just want to get a sneek peak at it.

Running 4.00.901
Reviewing 5.0 on test network.
Reading about 5.0 patches.
Hearing about 5.1 releasing soon.
Thinking about 6.0 focus groups.
What was the question again?

---OPEN LETTER TO EPICOR---
Lets face facts!! Version 5 was an extremely poor rollout from a
company such as Epicor and it should have never been shipped. I may
never install it. I would expect this from a shareware program but
not a $100,000.00 software package. Hey Epicor who do you think is
buying your software? Most of us don't have time for all of this
bull and that's why we bought your product in the first place. WISE
UP or start losing your market, it's your choice!

In general...

1. Beta testers don't test everything.
2. Beta testers may not have a large database like ours.
3. Beta testers don't necessarily want to test the software
as much as they just want to get a sneek peak at it.

I wish I could say this posting accomplished something but in fact it
doesn't. Motivating EPICOR via this list has not been effective in the
past.

All of the postings about bugs in V5 have, I'm sure, been noticed. Joe
Jasper ( President of EPICOR ) is on this list and I'm sure is not terribly
happy with the current rollout of V5. If you want to send him email about
the issue, please do at jjasper@... <mailto:jjasper@...> .

If everyone on this list posted emails expressing their frustration with
EPICOR, Vantage in general, EDI module, MRP module, V5 bugs, custom
programming prices, annual maintenance prices, etc, etc, etc, etc .... All
we would accomplish is depressing the heck out of each other. It's very
easy to do and it doesn't help.

So although I agree with your posting PLEASE refrain. Life can be
depressing enough these days. Send your emails directly to EPICOR and speak
your peace. You'll feel better without bumming the rest of us out. I
prefer to stick my head in the sand and IGNORE all the screwed up things in
life. It's the only good way I know to keep my sanity. :-)

For those of you who are posting the emails about bugs in V5 - keep them
coming. It's the only way for the rest of us to keep current about the
stability of V5.

I agree, Todd, that the probability that anything we express on the list
will motivate Epicor is small. On the other hand, the quality of the Epicor
product appears to be in decline instead of improving. It's as though the
developers are living in an ivory tower with little exposure to the "real
world" out here. Perhaps we, as a group, may someday decide to stop paying
our annual maintenance as the only way to get Epicor's attention. If the
customer's concerns are never addressed, you start loosing customers.

How about we all withhold our maintenance fees for this year until Ver. 5 is
fixed to the point of actually being useable. I would suggest Joe Konecny
set the benchmark of acceptability.

If we hit them in their cashflow they will take notice.

Does everyone's maintenance come due at the same time or is it set by the
original purchase date?

Probably the best thing to do is send a letter to Epicor and it's
shareholders stating our problems and ask for a response.

Does anyone have any stats on how many people are still running 3.0 to 4.0 to
5.0. I know I am still running 3.0 and it is OK. I really have no desire to
upgrade to another release, have the employees lose confidence in Vantage
product, Epicor as a company, and myself as an IT professional who
recommended this product.

I feel that Epicor is falling down on the job. If I shipped machinery to
customers who had this many problems, I would be out of business in less than
1 year.

With certainty, I appreciate the frustration of the sender of the Open
Letter. I too have been quietly chastised for verbalizing frustration.
That being said, Epicor has a tremendous resource in this list. One of the
premises of QS9000 is Customer Satisfaction. We here at Rubber Associates
have a very difficult time getting Customer Satisfaction information from
our customers, Epicor can get it here, immediately, from the horses mouth.
A bounty of information.
I have no doubt that the techs are scurrying about in a sweat trying to
resolve the LOUDEST users problems. I have no doubt the Joe Jasper is out
there on the floor cracking heads and the whip for all to see. ....
cept.... we can't see all that. No doubt the Epicor policy is for Joe
Jasper NOT to respond directly to users on this list. HOWEVER, I can tell
the temperature is rising on the list about 5.0, maybe its time for an
exception to that rule and give us a crumb of comfort. Please Please

Perspectives 2001 in October will be real interesting if, heaven forbid, V
5.x isn't stable and usable by then. The local user groups should begin
making plans to ask for a Vantage/eManufacturing Q&A panel session. If this
is rejected then finding a place to meet as a group to develop a strategy to
deal with V5, maintenance fees for a non-working product and Epicor in
general will be very much in order. If Epicor is not devoting at least as
much resources to making V5 work as for V6 development they have real
priority problems. I very much hope there are better things to discuss in
Orlando.
