V 5.0 upgrade

I wish I could say this posting accomplished something but in fact it
doesn't. Motivating EPICOR via this list has not been effective in the
past.

All of the postings about bugs in V5 have, I'm sure, been noticed. Joe
Jasper ( President of EPICOR ) is on this list and I'm sure is not terribly
happy with the current rollout of V5. If you want to send him email about
the issue, please do at jjasper@... <mailto:jjasper@...> .

If everyone on this list posted emails expressing their frustration with
EPICOR, Vantage in general, EDI module, MRP module, V5 bugs, custom
programming prices, annual maintenance prices, etc, etc, etc, etc .... All
we would accomplish is depressing the heck out of each other. It's very
easy to do and it doesn't help.

So although I agree with your posting PLEASE refrain. Life can be
depressing enough these days. Send your emails directly to EPICOR and speak
your peace. You'll feel better without bumming the rest of us out. I
prefer to stick my head in the sand and IGNORE all the screwed up things in
life. It's the only good way I know to keep my sanity. :-)

For those of you who are posting the emails about bugs in V5 - keep them
coming. It's the only way for the rest of us to keep current about the
stability of V5.

---OPEN LETTER TO EPICOR---
Lets face facts!! Version 5 was an extremely poor rollout from a
company such as Epicor and it should have never been shipped. I may
never install it. I would expect this from a shareware program but
not a $100,000.00 software package. Hey Epicor who do you think is
buying your software? Most of us don't have time for all of this
bull and that's why we bought your product in the first place. WISE
UP or start losing your market, it's your choice!

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I agree, Todd, that the probability that anything we express on the list
will motivate Epicor is small. On the other hand, the quality of the Epicor
product appears to be in decline instead of improving. It's as though the
developers are living in an ivory tower with little exposure to the "real
world" out here. Perhaps we, as a group, may someday decide to stop paying
our annual maintenance as the only way to get Epicor's attention. If the
customer's concerns are never addressed, you start loosing customers.

How about we all withhold our maintenance fees for this year until Ver. 5 is
fixed to the point of actually being useable. I would suggest Joe Konecny
set the benchmark of acceptability.

If we hit them in their cashflow they will take notice.

Does everyone's maintenance come due at the same time or is it set by the
original purchase date?

Probably the best thing to do is send a letter to Epicor and it's
shareholders stating our problems and ask for a response.

Does anyone have any stats on how many people are still running 3.0 to 4.0 to
5.0. I know I am still running 3.0 and it is OK. I really have no desire to
upgrade to another release, have the employees lose confidence in Vantage
product, Epicor as a company, and myself as an IT professional who
recommended this product.

I feel that Epicor is falling down on the job. If I shipped machinery to
customers who had this many problems, I would be out of business in less than
1 year.

With certainty, I appreciate the frustration of the sender of the Open
Letter. I too have been quietly chastised for verbalizing frustration.
That being said, Epicor has a tremendous resource in this list. One of the
premises of QS9000 is Customer Satisfaction. We here at Rubber Associates
have a very difficult time getting Customer Satisfaction information from
our customers, Epicor can get it here, immediately, from the horses mouth.
A bounty of information.
I have no doubt that the techs are scurrying about in a sweat trying to
resolve the LOUDEST users problems. I have no doubt the Joe Jasper is out
there on the floor cracking heads and the whip for all to see. ....
cept.... we can't see all that. No doubt the Epicor policy is for Joe
Jasper NOT to respond directly to users on this list. HOWEVER, I can tell
the temperature is rising on the list about 5.0, maybe its time for an
exception to that rule and give us a crumb of comfort. Please Please

Perspectives 2001 in October will be real interesting if, heaven forbid, V
5.x isn't stable and usable by then. The local user groups should begin
making plans to ask for a Vantage/eManufacturing Q&A panel session. If this
is rejected then finding a place to meet as a group to develop a strategy to
deal with V5, maintenance fees for a non-working product and Epicor in
general will be very much in order. If Epicor is not devoting at least as
much resources to making V5 work as for V6 development they have real
priority problems. I very much hope there are better things to discuss in
Orlando.
