One of our major customers has us on a consignment program. Let me warn
you: V6.1 really does not handle consignment that well. We have our
process down, but it has added signifcantly more data entry.

We build consignment orders. For us, a Program Manager negotiates with the customer on what the assembly is that will be built, customer PO number, delivery date, price, etc and that is put in as a Sales Order. Also a BOM is obtained and assembly instructions. When the material arrives at the dock, the receiving person forwards it to a kitting area that verifies receipts to the BOM and sends an acknowledgement to the Program Manager. A job is created for the kit but with the required operations but NO material on the MOM. An internal traveler is created consistent with the customer assembly instructions. After all labor completions and being shipped, the customer is billed for the labor + overhead per the original agreement. None of the customer parts are entered into inventory or comingled with turnkey inventory. If there are shortages of parts sent, we get the difference from the customer or purchase them and add this as a miscellaneous charge to
the Sales Order.
