V8.03.400 "Keep Line Quantity Constant" in Sales Order

Hi Larry,

We ran into this at both TNCO and New Bedford.

At TNCO, we just use release 1 as the "master" release and ship from
other releases until we send the last shipment. This works out ok for
TNCO because the same person that enters sales orders is the same person
that does the shipments.

At New Bedford, this would be much more confusing to manage where these
two functions are separate. New Bedford decided not to use multiple
release sales order lines. We just create a new line to represent
releases.

It seems that Epicor rewrote this function in between 6 and 8.

Subject: [Vantage] V8.03.400 "Keep Line Quantity Constant" in Sales
Order

In 61 we have checked the "Keep line Quantity Constant" in the company
configuration. We could then create a S/O with multi release without
increasing the line order quantity. We also we could then ship from any
release no problem.

In V8 we also checked the "Keep line Quantity Constant". Now we can
create multi release without increasing the line order quantity same as
in 61.
The problem arrise when we try to ship complet from release 1. We get a
message stating that "It will close all future release".
We would like to know what the thought process was for this to happens?
We cannot think of a scenario were we would want that to happens.
And is there a work around for this

Check the 8.03.404 upgrade notes. I think I saw a reference to the undesireable behavior you describe.

The problem with the global keep lines constant is that unless you know all your releases at the time, release 1 from line 1 will be used to keep the quantity constant so you do not "over release" against the line. We put a fake ship to in there that tells shipping not to ship the release. You can also lock the quantity on the individual sales order if you do not want to use the global keep lines constant setting

We ran across this same situation in 8.03.305K. We receive alot of
blanket orders with only a few initial releases, so we made release 1
the bulk of the order, the date is when the PO is due to expire. The
remaining releases are added with the dates given by the customer.
Release 1 would end up being our final release when the PO is ready
to be closed/shipped complete.

Not the greatest feature but we adapted.
