Hi Lauren,

I recently upgraded Vantage 6.1 to 8.03.404. You are right, there's no well-documented process for doing the upgrade and each technician you talk to has a slightly different way.

I believe .305 uses OpenEdge 10.0B and .404 uses 10.1B. You will install 10.1B in a new folder, install eMfg in a new folder, and then copy/upgrade your database in the new .404 folder.

I have a step-by-step instruction list for upgrading 6.1 to 8.03.404 if you want me to send it. You can just ignore the parts that do not apply to your versions and site. Also, if you download the install guide for .404 version from Epicweb, you can sort of follow that process to do your upgrade. There's a lot of jumping around though.
We are upgrading to SP404 this weekend from SP305. I called Epicor tech
support, but they cannot seem to answer my questions. Every time I talk
with them they give me a different answer.

Does anyone have a checklist for upgrading from 305 to 404? We are
running on a Progress platform. Do I have to completely un-install the
manufacturing/OpenEdge software and then install the new versions, or
just install into new folders.

I have done the upgrade on a test server, but as I said tech support
tells me a different way to do it every time. I am looking for the most
efficient way.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank You,

Lauren L. Hellings

I looked through my notes. You will to download Epicor's notes for
the 8.03.400 installation. I am assuming you are on a Progress
database so here's the link...

https://epicweb.epicor.com/doc/Docs/Manufacturing_Install_803400_Progress.pdf

Read this entire guide, it contains most of what you will need. In
section 8, you will install the .404 patch but the rest should be
pretty accurate. There are some other guides in the .400 section that
show how to upgrade OpenEdge 10.1B, download those too.

https://epicweb.epicor.com/doc/Pages/VantageVista.aspx
... go here and click expand the 8.03.400 section.

The one thing not noted is to make sure that your Plants have a default Cost
ID (Plant | Actions menu) BEFORE YOU DO ANY INVENTORY TRANSACTIONS -
otherwise, all of your costs move through at zero. Don't bother setting it
ahead of time; just add the step to the end of the upgrade to 404.

Lauren we are progress on 305B. We are upgrading the 400 first given
that is as I understand it a complete database upgrade then on to
404. We are just in the process on updating our test DB today and go
live this weekend.

We are moving to 40x for the service connect integration, primarily
due to the fact we are installing the advanced quality module.

As far as the purchasing suggestions, I would check your part classes
and make sure they match to the buyers who perform the purchasing for
the given materials. If they do not, when those buyers run the PO
suggestions would not be able to to see the demand on the parts under
that class. We are on 305 currently as well.
