Ship Ship out of stock allows inventory from any location
to go negative. Make to order allows you to ship more than are in WIP
location but does not drive the location negative like make to stock.

We are currently on Vantage 4.0 and have had extensive modifications to the
inventory module in which used Epicor's custom programming dept. to create a
module to track work in process (items we might have to put away to
inventory locations between operations or make to order type parts that we
may need to put away and locate later). We had called this module bin
tracker and after several years of trying to convince Epicor (along with
some other companies I'm sure) to make this a standard optional module, they
developed the new AMM module in 5.1 to track WIP which we have been testing
extensively the last few months. It's great that they did this because it
will allow us to avoid the extensive costs associated with getting our
custom programming incorporated into each upgrade. The new AMM module is
also more feature rich than what we have and overall is very nice. There are
a few central design concepts of AMM/Inventory/Shipping in 5.1 that we
disagree with and would like would like to get other companies opinion on
and would be curious to know why any company would want to allow any of
these things to happen. We had designed our custom inventory program to not
allow any of these things to happen which we think are very important in
keeping inventory and costing accurate. If you agree with us, please add you
companies name to the enhancement request list on these:
