Vantage 6.1.536 Blanket PO

this is what we do on the sales and procurement side :(

I think 8.3 might have some additional functionality here, the question is does it work?

Our purchasing agent just showed me how she does a "Blanket Purchase Order" and I was surprise at how much work she had to do.
This is the process that they follow:
1, Create a purchase order at the begining of the year for let us say 6,000 pcs of one item
2, when they creaate the purchase order line the system automatically does a release for the quabtity of the line .
3, Purchasing change the release to a future dates such as 1/1/2009
4, Whenever purchasing want to release a qty of say 100 pcs they will add a second release line for the 100 pcs.
5, Then they have to go to the first release and substract the 100 pcs from the original release.
They have to do this for every releases that they have, which could be a hundred or so release.

This seem to me as a complet waste of time.
I would think that oyu should be able to create a purchase order with a po line and then whenever you decide to release the line with what ever quantity you want it should automatical keep track of the amount left to release and once you have reach the total amount for the line it will notify you that you have reached it.

Are we doing something wrong?

Could anyone tell me how they process their Blanket Purchase Orders.

Thank you

1) Create the PO with the blanket amount of 10000. Make sure the date is out by 50 years.
2) Create first 'real' release for 100 pieces with real delivery date.
3) Subtract 100 from the 10000 piece release.

Sounds the same...

If you go into company set up and check the "Keep Line Quantity
Constant" in Order Management Configuration, the first release
created will decrement automatically as each new release is added.
Otherwise, the process you are using is appropriate.
