Vantage 6.1 - importing p/n's & descriptions from excel

If you are familiar with Access you can create an automation script to
enter the part numbers. Below is a script I used to update the part
class. Maybe it will help you get started.

Does Vantage 6.1 have the capability to import part numbers and
descriptions directly from Excel? I have a spreadsheet that is several
thousand part numbers long. I started entering them manually but after
the first few hundred I'm ready to start looking for a job at the local
fast food joint to get out of having to do the rest. Thanks for hte
feedback.

No import capability, unless you ask Epicor to write a tool for you.

However, there have been many users in this group that use automation
tools to read the excel file and copy / paste into Epicor.

Programs like Ground Control and others...

There is no "free" import capability but there is an Import/Data Conversion Tool available which runs from an Access db which you populate from your Excel spreadsheet.
At first, it's not the easiest thing in the world to use but once you get used to it you can import any file/table and also use it for mass updates etc.

Thanks for the info. It sounds promising. Where can I get more details?

You'd need to contact your friendly neighbourhood Epicor salesperson.
Not sure of the pricing.

Not sure about 6.1, but in 8.03.4xx you can import a BOM into a method that
does not have any operations attached to it yet. I believe in any method
(quote, engineering, job).
This will bring in part numbers, descriptions, and type of part (P or M)
along with Qty.
After the import, you still have to go back to enter in the part class,
product group etc.
The format for the csv file is partnumber, description, type, qty

You can delete the method also after you have imported the part numbers.

This approach is under actions, get details, import.

Good luck.
