Vantage 6.1 NonConf table copy to MS SQL

Sounds like a job for DBTool. Below is an excerpt from the V800odbckit. If you don't already have this, you should request it from support. It covers this and many other issues with using odbc.

How to identify problems with the SQL Width ?

Dbtool is a new character mode application which allow Progress to identify problems with the SQLWidth and record format errors in our database. This tool was first included in Service Pack 6 for Progress 9.1D. To access the DBTool menus type at the ProEnv prompt:

On the server, Start button --> Programs --> OpenEdge 10.0b --> ProEnv

Change into the directory with the database. The database is assumed off.

dbtool <dbname>

This is the options menu presented by dbtool.

DATABASE TOOLS MENU - 1.0b

--------------------------

1. SQL Width & Date Scan w/Report Option

2. SQL Width Scan w/Fix Option

3. Record Validation

4. Record Version Validation

5. Read database block(s)

9. Enable/Disable File Logging

Q. Quit

Option 1: Will find the maximum field sizes and report them.

Option 2: Will find the maximum field sizes and update their width.

Option 3: Will validate the schema versioning of the records after records are updated by the tool

Option 4: Will validate the schema versioning before and after the records are updated by the tool

Option 5: Will display the amount of records find by recid, table and area

Option 9: Will enable or disable the logging of the tool , if enabled a dbtool.out file will be generated

The usage of this tool is very helpful when trying to determine if the SQLWidth of a given field has been exceeded and we need to repair this SQL width. You can also use the Data Dictionary for editing the SQL Widths manually.

Data Dictionary path on server(add -rx)

C:\epicor\OE100B\bin\prowin32.exe -p _dict.p -rx

You connect

Physical db: mfgsys

Network: TCP

Host: localhost

Service: 8000 (mfgsysgroup)

Then select the table

Options à Adjust Field Length

Generally double the length as a start.

(backup database before making changes just in case you make a mistake)

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage 6.1 NonConf table copy to MS SQL

Hi All,

I am trying to copy data from the NonConf table in Vantage 6.1 to MS SQL
server.

We have done this with many tables already without a problem, but the
NonConf table gives the following error ;

Error at Source for Row Number 3901. Errors encountered so far this
task:1.

[Datadirect-Technologies][ODBC PROGRESS driver][PROGRESS]Column
Description in table PUB.NonConf has value exceeding its max length or
precision.

[Datadirect-Technologies][ODBC PROGRESS driver]Error in row.

We have played with transforming the field sizes with no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Robert MacDonald
