Vantage 6.1 performance issue

Dave,

The link speeds are a very significant factor. Also make sure you don't
have any entries in your host file from the old server address. That
would cause dome major lag also.

Dave,

Other considerations:
I have found that depending on the type of workstation NIC and your
Switch's port configuration...
Link Speed & Duplex can dramatically impact performance.

The old rule of thumb was that you nailed your Link Speed and Duplex mode
at the fastest connection possible, i.e., 100bT Full Duplex -- because
having both your NIC and Switch port Auto Negotiate Link Speed and Duplex
would create latency or lag.

Recently, I found that on Cisco 3500, 3550 and Dell PowerConnect(gigabit)
switches Auto Negotiated ports were significantly faster with our Intel
Pro 100 Desktop NIC's (also Auto Negotiated)... Vantage time to login is <
15 seconds.

My $.02 worth

Regards, Lee

I am new to this group so please be gentle :)

I have a few workstations (approx 4, diffent op systems) that take
condiderably longer to load Vantage than all of the others. The
average time to load Vantage on our system is around 15 seconds.
The problem pc's take around 90 seconds.

Initially all of my workstations were at the 90 second level, until
I read one of the threads here that suggested running MS RegClean.
This worked for about half of the pc's but the other half I had to
go into regedit and "brute force" the entries that were pointing to
our old server (the name changed).

I am now left with 4 (of coarse critical and "noisy" users) that
still take 90 seconds.

I found on one of the stations that If I login as administrator and
run the vcopydll.exe that the station loads in 15 seconds the first
time. After that it reverts to 90 seconds.

I downloaded and installed the MDAC 2.8 thinking this is a dll
problem and I thought I was on to something, but in the end the pc
reverted back to the long login so that was a dead end.

I have checked the DNS entries and network connections and they seem
to be OK. (none of the other network operations are slower than
anyone else's).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave Olender - dolender@...

Dave,
Not sure if it will help, but check the services and hosts files.
Sometimes these have been known to generate slow connections.
This is just a shot in the dark, it's been a long time since I had to
deal with this.
Hope this helps,
