I'd be curious if any Sales-Connect or Mobile Connect users would recommend
either one of those products for your sales people. Do the sales people need
the capability of a full client? Do they just do quoting and managing orders?

IIUC, Mobile Connect synchronizes sales information on the network while Sales
Connect is a web interface to customers, orders, quotes, etc. Just curious.

I just had a user with a failed notebook PC and was looking at buy new vs. repair alternatives. It then dawned on me that notebook PCs with the power to run V8 are rare and/or expensive. Very expensive. Our entire sales dept. uses notebooks that I had thought were going to be OK but now look pretty weak (1Ghz/1GB class). I'm going to repair for now and hope V8 capable notebooks are available and affordable in a year or so.

Anyone out there on V8 using notebooks and if so what specs did you have to get to for even minimal usability? Will a single 1.7Ghz CPU suffice? Any experiences with Duo Core but slower CPU speed?

It's looking to me like our sales people are going to end up with a desktop PC for Vantage and then hang on to the notebooks only for travel.

You *might* be pleasantly surprised. The P4 in a typical desktop is
one of the lamest processors per-GHz on the market. Whereas the
Pentium "M" in lots of notebooks is very quick.

We're just a little 5 person office, but out of some Dell Optiplex P4
2400MHz boxes, generic Athlon 1800s, and a Dell notebook with a
1400MHz P4-M, the notebook runs the fastest CPU
benchmarks. Unfortunately, just about any notebook suffers from
lower memory bandwidth and slower disks than a full size machine.

Even if you get the expensive Dell notebooks (CAD or gaming
optimized), most the cost is in hi-po video that's not going to help
Vantage much.

I'll scrounge around for my notes on the CPU benches I ran, if you're
interested.

[SPAM] [Vantage] Vantage 8.0 and Notebook PCs

I just had a user with a failed notebook PC and was looking at buy new vs.
repair alternatives. It then dawned on me that notebook PCs with the
power to run V8 are rare and/or expensive. Very expensive. Our entire
sales dept. uses notebooks that I had thought were going to be OK but now

Anyone out there on V8 using notebooks and if so what specs did you have
to get to for even minimal usability? Will a single 1.7Ghz CPU suffice?
Any experiences with Duo Core but slower CPU speed?

It's looking to me like our sales people are going to end up with a
desktop PC for Vantage and then hang on to the notebooks only for travel.

Thanks,
