Vantage 8.0 users who 'nest' w/ third party software

I am in the midst of developing the process that brings our demand
and inventory into PEP with ODBC, nests parts of like material and
due date on the available inventory, and using Service Connect,
creates a new job just to cut the nest. The beauty is how well the
costs (labor & matl.) for the individual parts get split back to the
original jobs.

I've done the process manually, but I'm currently working on some
standards between sales & purchasing so PEP can properly identify
what gets nested together and on what stock.

Do you use PEP <http://www.peptechnology.com/> and Vantage 8? Let me
hear from you...

My company uses Vantage 8.0 and the APS (Advanced Planning and
Scheduling) module to schedule our shop. We also use a laser/plasma
nesting software called P.E.P (PEP) by Measurement Master. We need to
get these two companies to the table to get their software to talk to
each other. The nesting software can identify when two or more jobs can
be cut on the same sheet of material. The Vantage solution for this is
a Batch which is very cumbersome. We have got to get this process more
automated.

It would be a huge advantage to have other users pushing for this
capability. If you are using Vantage 8.0 and cut parts with a laser,
plasma, waterjet, CNC router, turret punch, etc... anything that
requires you to 'nest' these parts on a sheet of material (steel,
aluminum, plastic, wood, etc.), I would appreciate hearing from you.
Especially if you use PEP. Email me even if you use one of the other
nesting products (SigmaNest, Striker, MTC, NestLib, BySoft, ToPs100,
etc.) I would be willing to create a table in the database section of
this user group to let others know who is using what.

Many thanks,
Steve P.

Steve, this is something that we will be doing at many different stages
of the process (Quoting, Initial Production Planning, Shop Floor, etc).
I would love to talk to you some time to see where you guys are at,
since we haven't done this part quite yet.

Don,

It was good to see your interest. I'm a bit surprised there haven't
been many replies. MRP/ERP packages don't 'nest' well and the
nesting packages don't do the other stuff well if at all.

We've got PEP importing our orders from Vantage. That won't do us
much good until we can get the resulting data back into Vantage.
And do it without much if any additional data entry. I've spent a
couple days with a Vantage consultant pouring over how we can get
this done. It looks like it will work.

I'd like to hear where others are in the process, what software
people are using and some of the ideas to make this work.

Sincerely,
Steve P.

We use Pro-Nest software for nesting flame table steel. We currently
work of a customized cut list report, but essentially sort open
cutting operations by job #, then by material. The only issue is
once these operations are nested, they are still on the report until
the MES station reports them as being complete. It is kind of hard
to keep track of what has been nested and what hasn't. So I agree
much work could be done here to improve the process.

We are currently in implementation stage of Vista 8.03. We nest with
Merry Mech SMP and FinnPowers NCXExpress. Nests run on turret punches
and plasma.

We are trying to figure out how to record nest information in Vista.
We are a manufacture of wood stoves so our nests don't change much.

We currently keep track of nests to run in a spreadsheet for
particular models. The parts made are recorded in an old DOS MRP system.

We purchased the Advanced manufacturing module for vista but it has a
bug (Can't select concurrent or sequential mode drop down). And it is
time consuming setting up parts.

I would be intersted in discussing nesting and how to make it work in
Vista/Vantage.

Thanks,
Lyndon
