Ari,
You reference the SQL Explorer tool which I have used in the past. But
with my recent migration to 8.80.403 the tool is no longer there. Epicor
says it is no longer available and they have no suggestion or plan to
make a replacement available. Has anyone else encountered this impasse
and found a good replacement tool?

I'm not 100% positive, but, I believe that with the ODBC connection set
to "Read Committed," as long as you select a field in your table to use
as an index (when linking the table), you should be able to make changes
to the data.

(I spent days bashing my head against a wall trying to figure this out,
especially because every once in a while I'd "accidentally" do it right,
get it to allow me to update data, and then not be able to do it again!)

That being said, I think that it's extremely dangerous to do something
like this. Previous admins had been using MSAccess to perform typo
corrections and such, but it always made me cringe to see the database
open in Access. A better practice might be to use the SQL Explorer Tool
and execute proper SQL selects and updates to change data.

We are looking to condition some data in our currnet OpenEdge Database
for Vantage 8.00.11b.

Can this be done through an ODBC connection in MS Access. How is the
write permission established for the connection.

Thanks for any help,

Read commited will work as well as removing the entry all together. Keep
in mind that with the Read Committed option, Access locks the table so
you want to make sure that you aren't modifying the data during busy
times
