Vantage 8.00 Security Tools

Patty,

Thanks for your reply. We are doing security auditing, so a report
would be helpful. We do use security groups the way you describe.
Is the report you refer to a crystal report? Can I use it with 8.00?

Thanks,

Jim Pratt

Does anyone have a good tool for managing Vantage user security under
version 8.00 (8.00.811b to be precise)? My understanding is that the
8.03.4XX has new tools, but there's not too much to choose from before
that.

Thanks,

The best way to handle security on 8.0 (and 8.03) is security groups.

Create Security Groups by grouping functional business processes. Like
Executives, CSR's, Finance, Accounting. Then when in Menu Maintenance-
Security tab grant access to those groups. Therefore, if someone
leaves the company, you just disable their account. You don't have to
go through the entire menu to removing their name from specific menu
items. Additionally, if someone new joins the company, you just add
them to a group their shadow is in. Not to confuse you, but a user can
be in more than one group too.

Oh...and about "new functionality" in 8.03.4XX...DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE.
All they added was a report; which to be honest isn't worth running
unless you specify a person. Otherwise it is a very long report...

Hope this helps...
Patty
