Hi Jose,
We are on Vantage 8.03.409A and have been using jobs since our initial Go Live.
There are a number of benefits of doing jobs within Vantage, but also take into account all the initial setup needed to get your inventory and MOMs into the part master, effort each time you set up a job MOM, and the time required to complete stock picking, factory operations, and ship the jobs/sales order lines. You may be able to automate some of the Vantage record-keeping, but initially, expect to spend more time than you currently do closing off jobs electronically. If you can build bar code scanners into your process, it will definitely help (we haven't done this yet, but it is definitely on the cards to do soon).
Another decision you will need to make is where the MOM will be built, and how. For our business, we heavily use the Vantage product configurators. All of our MOMs are created in quote entry either using template quote lines or product configurators. Once the quote is accepted, we push the quote through to sales order & jobs. At job state, a technical person reviews the MOM versus drawings/floorplans to ensure everything is made to the right dimensions/specifications. The job is then released to purchasing and factory.
The options you have for building MOMs are:
1. Build MOM in template quote line, then duplicate quote line into your current quote.
2. Build subassembly MOMs and master MOMs in part master. Build product configurators which utilise the master MOMs. (generic part name for master MOM, i.e. "Desk")
3. Build specific MOMs for each product in part master, with specific product code for each MOM. (i.e. Desk-1800x750, Desk-1600x800, Desk-1200x900).
I'm not sure how much of Vantage you are currently using or how complex your MOMs are. For our business (custom office furniture), we find that quoting based on a real Vantage MOM helps us estimate costs more exactly. It also helps save time once the client accepts the quote, as the MOMs are already set up and ready to go. (However, bear in mind that Quote Entry slows down the more lines you quote, and the more complex the MOMs are).
Let me know if you would like further information about anything in particular.
Kind Regards,
Dan
