Vantage 8 and MS Server version

We are using the upgrade to re-educate our user base. We have been running Vantage 6 for almost 10 years. We have to prove we can manage this upgrade and we plan to take advantage of some specific new features.

Assuming we can get ourselves to Vantage 8, there is no reason not to go to Epicor 9 at some future point. But there is no reason to go there all at once. Plus the infrastructure requirements are less with Vantage 8.

We are currently running Vantage 6.1 on Progress and MS Server 2003. Getting ready to upgrade to 8.0/8.03 for now. Perhaps Epicor 9 later.

Does anyone have a recommendation on MS SBS vs. Server 2008? The help line is not much help here.

Thanks in advance.
Epicor doesn't really care either way. It will run fine on pretty much
anything XP or better. That said, I would personally stick to normal Server
2008 just because it doesn't have all the extra SBS stuff in it and it's
good policy to keep your services segregated.

If you don't mind me asking, why are going to Vantage 8 as oppose to
going to Epicor 9.05?

Have you started testing yet?

You are doing yourself a dis-service if you are starting the process and not
going to the most recent version right away, if you have been testing for 4
years, I could see it, but not sure it makes a ton of sense, change once is
better than doubling your work and changing 2 times.

I would recommend actually not trying to upgrade, and do a migration to a
clean DB using the DMT tool in 9.05.

But to answer your specific question, don't use SBS since it does not play
well with other servers, and because of how it is designed, it has a ton of
non-standard security and automatic configurations to it, which can
sometimes make it a complete pain in the ass to work with.
