Vantage and the iPad

I got it to work. I'm using CPS 4.5 with WI 5.1 and CSG 3.1.

Here's the docs for my setup:

http://support.citrix.com/proddocs/topic/receiver-ipad-1/mobile-receiver
-admin-config-sg.html

There are a lot of different ways your Citrix environment may be setup,
so you'll need to understand your environment well. It took me a couple
of attempts to get it right.

You should be able to get vantage running on an iPad using the Citrix
receiver app. This was designed allow the iPad to run corporate windows
applications. See link below.

I don't think Epicor has created an apple application yet but I haven't
looked that deeply through the apple app store. It would be cool it
there was an application created for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad
that would support labor collection and other data entry functions
through these devices.

Does anyone know if there is a Terminal Server Client app available for
the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad? If so, then you should be able to connect
to a Citrix system or ever a RDP to a desktop. This might be worth
looking into.

There are a number of RDP applications out there for the Apple
products...some are free, some cost as much as $75 a pop. I have not
played with this for Vantage use.

There are also VPN apps out there as well.

We use these extensively and love them - the VPN connection, that is.
The one we use currently is free (and of course limited to the number of
connections you can CONFIGURE).

But we use it for a different application as well, not Vantage.

It sounds like I hit onto a good Friday topic. My initial thought was to
not have much of anything else on the iPad but the Vantage client. But I am
not sure how it would be able to handle Vantage in terms of hardware. We
spend a lot of time out in our shop and instead of needing to run to a

especially since the base iPad's all come with Wifi.

The Ipad would work perfectly well with vantage in the 9.XX versions if
you deployed specific forms as web forms, there would be no need to
install anything on the ipad for that other than establishing your WIFI
connection.

You might want to look into other hardware besides the iPad. Yeah the
iPad is a great gadget, it is cool to use, and for men who tend to have
larger fingers, the iPad is nice because the icons are larger.

I know there are Vantage customers that have something like what you are
looking for working in their environments especially utilizing Wi-Fi,
but with different gadgets than the iPad. So there are different
alternatives out there, but whether they are better than using Apple
products is another story.

I use my IPhone all the time using VPN + RDP to fix things in Vantage. It is bit slow having to resize the screen and scroll, but great when I am away from the office. If I were using an IPad it would be really easy.

The battery life depends on what you buy with the iPad. They have what
they call "extended battery packs" for the iPhone and that does help,
but it is about $150 more. Not sure what they have for the iPad.

Out of the box the iPhone does not have that great of a battery life.

There was an interesting demonstration of Epicor 9.05 data into an I-Pad at the on line "2010 Epicor Virtual User Summit" on Wednesday. Still available on line. It was in the web cast "Epicor 9.05 with Q&A: Part 1". I noted it at 23 minutes into the video.

Any one out there using Rough Cut scheduling fence option with the global?

What is the impact on material requirements linked to OPs beyond the rough cut fence selected (since it isn't actually scheduling these OPs whose start dates would become the linked material req'mt dates)?

Ipad on the shop floor? LOL!..... That's like a cooler full of beer at a funeral. It just doesn't belong.

Plus they are so expensive!

Get a cheap $400 laptop and when it dies, buy another. After two or three lifecycles of cheap laptops you'll finally equal the price of one iPad.

Are you hiring? Your company must have lots of money! ;-)

They start at $499 for a 16gig with wifi (no 3g). It would be a whole lot
easier to carry around than a laptop especially since they only weigh 1.5lbs
and you don't need to find somewhere to set the laptop down to open it up
and look through. But the big thing is the long battery life, it'll go all
day.

Hi Chris,

I think most of the 10 inch laptops have all day batteries. They are lightweight and have WiFi, and probably wouldn't have any issue running the Vantage client.

Just a thought.

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage and the iPad

I have never used an Apple product before, but I was wondering if anyone
has
explored using an iPad with Vantage loaded onto it and whether or not it
could handle it. My thought specifically was for out in a shop with Wifi
connection.
