Vantage - Auto Print Packing Slip

Have Epicor do a Webex with you? Maybe their "back fix" still doesn't work.

Hi,

I have a requirement for our Packing Slip to be automatically printed when the ReadyToInvoice (Shipped) tick box is ticked on the Customer Shipment Entry screen.

I have tried to follow the user guide to set this up but it doesnt seem to work.

In History Tasks (in System monitor) it says that is is COMPLETE (TaskDescription - Packing Slip Print), but it won't print or print preview.

I think I have set the auto printer up correctly but I have also set it to AutoPreview in Report Data Definition and it doesnt preview.

Does anyone know where I might be going wrong?

Thanks,

CHRIS THOMPSON

Chris,

I think you mean ReadyToInvoice? So you have this setup for all
customers? (We have additional criteria for only certain
customers)...And you tested your Rules on the BAM and verify your Action
has the Report ID and Data definition filled in?

Did you check that the Data Definition is pointing to the path you
expect?

Hi Karen,

I appreciate your help here.

Yes I meant ReadyToInvoice.. We want it for all customers do when the shipment is marked as 'shipped' the packing slip is automatically generated.

For the BAM Action I have selected the correct Report ID and the Correct Data Definition (and have ticked AutoPrint).

For the BAM Rules I have ticked 'For Print' and have selected ReadyToInvoice = Constant (Value = TRUE). The rule is validated.

In the Report Data Def > Auto-Print Rules I have the correct report selected and the correct style. I have selected an 'auto printer' (not convinced this is set up correctly) and have selected 'Auto-Preview.

I dont want any rule conditions.

Do you know, if it is a network printer (ie has CAT5 to it on the network switch), in Printer Entry, what do you put in for the 'Network Path' - Is that just the printer's IP address such as 10.0.0.150 or is it something different.

I dont think the printer should affect it should it? If it is not previewing anyway.

The weird thing is, in History Tasks it shows as being complete (Packing Slip Print). Is that just the BAM that is complete?

In 'Reports' in system monitor, there is nothing at all.

Thanks.

I would call support and make sure the AutoPrint feature works
correctly. Every time in the past that I have tried to set up
AutoPrinting it hasn't worked correctly. Support is always trying to
work the bugs out of this feature. Just a heads up...

Chris,

In the Report Data Def > Auto-Print Rules I have the correct report
selected and the correct style. I have selected a PDF writer and have
selected Auto-print.

In company printer, I have description and ID named the exact name of
the printer, and network path = \\server\exactnameofprinter
<file:///\\server\exactnameofprinter> .

You should be able to open the path (for example
-\\Server\epicor\mfgsys803\EDI_DATA\outbound\856) and view the
destination for the output. I have seen the file appear here after less
than a minute from the Customer Shipment Entry process answering "yes"
to ready to ship...

FYI,

Karen

I have a pick ticket auto-printing when they click a checkbox at order entry time. (Which epicor told me wouldn't work at my release level, but it does)
Try to print the Standard form (instead of a custom form) and get that to work first. Then troubleshoot the custom form. (I had an extra/unused file in my custom report data definition - when I removed it - it worked ok)
In the case of my pick ticket on the report menu option there are date selection parms etc - I needed to have my default settings dynamic (Start date-month -3 End Date- month +4)to make it work. I don't think that's your case since I don't see report selection criteria or filters in the pack slip print.

When you refer to a pick ticket are you referring to a SO Pick Slip/List?

I have changed the printer path and its still not working.

I will try it with the standard form - feel like im going round in circles.

Out of interest, on the Print Pick List screen, do you know how to set the dates to always be a few months behing and a few months ahead (incase the sales operator has input the incorrect dates)? I dont know why there isnt just a screen where you can input the SO number and it will print the pick list, instead of having to select date ranges.

We are on 407a and Epicor completely broke auto printing pack
slips...I'm not sure if they've fixed it since then as we have not moved
on yet. Prior to 407a auto printing pack slips works fine. Chris, do
you have a printer defined with the correct UNC path to it and that
printer called out in the RDD? Also what version are you on? That
defined printer must also be installed on the local client installation
running Vantage..

Chris,

In the Report Data Def > Auto-Print Rules I have the correct report
selected and the correct style. I have selected a PDF writer and have
selected Auto-print.

In company printer, I have description and ID named the exact name of
the printer, and network path = \\server\exactnameofprinter
<file:/// <file:///\\> \\server\exactnameofprinter> .

You should be able to open the path (for example
-\\Server\epicor\mfgsys803\EDI_DATA\outbound\856) and view the
destination for the output. I have seen the file appear here after less
than a minute from the Customer Shipment Entry process answering "yes"
to ready to ship...

We are on version 9.04.503B where it doesnt work. We have been provided a back-fix for our version but it would appear that it still doesnt work unless im not doing something blatently obvious.

I've followed the instructions over and over and I still cant get it to work.

We USED to be able to get it to print/preview a blank page, but not it won't even do that. I have taken the back-fix off and it still wont do it.

Something tells me its not set up correctly somewhere in the background but I dont know why/where.

Im going to try with the base report now and see if I suceed.

Epicor seem to be good at breaking things that were previously working and taking ages to fix them again.

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Vantage - Auto Print Packing Slip

We are on 407a and Epicor completely broke auto printing pack
slips...I'm not sure if they've fixed it since then as we have not moved
on yet. Prior to 407a auto printing pack slips works fine. Chris, do
you have a printer defined with the correct UNC path to it and that
printer called out in the RDD? Also what version are you on? That
defined printer must also be installed on the local client installation
running Vantage..

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Vantage - Auto Print Packing Slip

Chris,

In the Report Data Def > Auto-Print Rules I have the correct report
selected and the correct style. I have selected a PDF writer and have
selected Auto-print.

In company printer, I have description and ID named the exact name of
the printer, and network path = \\server\exactnameo fprinter
<file:/// <file:///\\> <file:/// <file:///\\> \\> <file:///
<file:///\\> <file:/// <file:///\\> \\> \\>
\\server\exactnameo fprinter> .

You should be able to open the path (for example
-\\Server\epicor\ mfgsys803\ EDI_DATA\ outbound\ 856) and view the
destination for the output. I have seen the file appear here after less
than a minute from the Customer Shipment Entry process answering "yes"
to ready to ship...

FYI,

Karen

Subject: Re: [Vantage] Vantage - Auto Print Packing Slip

Hi Karen,

I appreciate your help here.

Yes I meant ReadyToInvoice. . We want it for all customers do when the
shipment is marked as 'shipped' the packing slip is automatically
generated.

For the BAM Action I have selected the correct Report ID and the Correct
Data Definition (and have ticked AutoPrint).

For the BAM Rules I have ticked 'For Print' and have selected
ReadyToInvoice = Constant (Value = TRUE). The rule is validated.

In the Report Data Def > Auto-Print Rules I have the correct report
selected and the correct style. I have selected an 'auto printer' (not
convinced this is set up correctly) and have selected 'Auto-Preview.

I dont want any rule conditions.

Do you know, if it is a network printer (ie has CAT5 to it on the
network switch), in Printer Entry, what do you put in for the 'Network
Path' - Is that just the printer's IP address such as 10.0.0.150 or is
it something different.

I dont think the printer should affect it should it? If it is not
previewing anyway.

The weird thing is, in History Tasks it shows as being complete (Packing
Slip Print). Is that just the BAM that is complete?

In 'Reports' in system monitor, there is nothing at all.

Thanks.

Chris,

I think you mean ReadyToInvoice? So you have this setup for all
customers? (We have additional criteria for only certain
customers).. .And you tested your Rules on the BAM and verify your
Action
has the Report ID and Data definition filled in?

Did you check that the Data Definition is pointing to the path you
expect?

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage - Auto Print Packing Slip

Hi,

I have a requirement for our Packing Slip to be automatically printed
when the ReadyToInvoice (Shipped) tick box is ticked on the Customer
Shipment Entry screen.

I have tried to follow the user guide to set this up but it doesnt seem
to work.

In History Tasks (in System monitor) it says that is is COMPLETE
(TaskDescription - Packing Slip Print), but it won't print or print
preview.

I think I have set the auto printer up correctly but I have also set it
to AutoPreview in Report Data Definition and it doesnt preview.

Does anyone know where I might be going wrong?

Thanks,

CHRIS THOMPSON

Yes, SO Pick slip/list.

To set default parameters:
On from and to dates, check Dynamic Checkbox
use the drop down arrow, select 'End of month - 3 monthes'
For To date: I select 'End of Month + 4 monthes'
or whatever time frame you want.

Go up to Actions and select Save Defaults.

I dont know why there isnt just a screen where you can input the SO number and it will print the pick list, instead of having to select date ranges.

Ive tried savind the defaults on the date but each time I go back in, they revert back to todays date.

Do you think this is a bug?

We're at 8.03.405A. Does your userid/security allow you to save changes??? I'm just guessing. We've never had that problem.... it could be a bug. Call Epicor on that one..
