Vantage - Data Collection Screens on Hand Held Units with Termin

Beware with Vantage HandHeld, it does not have the same business
logic& rules as the native app. One instance is Customer Shipment.
In standard Vantage shipping make to order you can scan, then put in
a lot number & quantity. If that lot does not exist it creates that
lot. In handheld you cannot do this. I was forced to chop up the
standard screen to fit onto the handheld. Same thing with
receiving, nothing like the standard. I understand that they are
compacting it so it can be mobile, but they should both have the
same logic sitting behind them.

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on how to configure hand-held units running Windows Mobile 5 so that we can get the Vantage Data Collection screens on the hand held, presumably running terminal services?

Sorry for such a vague question, but I dont really know what Im asking.

Basically we have a trial hand held unit by Intermec with Windows Mobile 5 on it.

It is on our wireless network and we want to be able to connect it in somehow ( I think with Terminal Services on our Vantage server) so we can get all the hand held screens up on our hand held devices so we can capture data via the hand helds.

If any one has any info it'd be greaty appreciated.

Thanks,

CHRIS

Chris,

Are you using these as barcode scanners? If so, you may need to
install DataWedge software, or something like it, on your handhelds.
I did, since otherwise the barcode scanner didn't work, being that it
couldn't 'hear' the TS session asking for a scan. Setting up the TS
session to your Vantage server is a matter for your net wizards.

As for details, I did this more than a year ago and it would probably
be more efficient for you to dig it up than for me to try to tell you
here. My user guides are for the symbol machines that we use here,
and from Motorola more generally. As I recall, it's a free download.
I found it a bit painful to install and configure, but I'm not sure
that wasn't Windows Mobile more than DataWedge.

Try this link:

Good luck!

Follow these steps to get this accomplished:

1.) Install Vantage MES on your terminal server.

2.) Create a shortcut under whichever users need the Handheld Icon on
the terminal server (This should be found under the Documents and
Setting Folder under Users I believe)

3.) Change the name of Vantage MES to Vantage Handheld

4.) Right Click Vantage Handheld go to properties and change the
target to what is displayed below

5.) C:\client803\client\MfgSys.exe -hh

6.) Once you have completed these steps you will be able to configure
the Windows Mobile device to sign in as the user that you set the icon
up for in step 2. You could also save the icon in the startup folder for
that user and the Vantage Handheld will start automatically.

Hope this helps.

Hi Travis,

I will give that a go.

We have Vantage on one server and the anciliary programs (Corvu) on a seperate server.

Presumably I need to be on the Vantage server?

How will I know if terminal services is set up?

Thanks,

CHRIS
