Vantage Disaster Recovery Continuity Plan

If you also have after imaging turned on, you can the roll forward you
ai files on the back up server, and loose virtually nothing. See the
systems amin manual for an extensive discussion of AI.

What is good disaster recovery plan for Vantage? We just had a near-miss,
giving us a reality check. Turned out that something caused the switch to
burp and lose its network address table, but Vantage users were down a whole
day. A good recovery plan has been moved to the top of the priority pecking
order.

What do you think is the minimum down-time possible to achieve, when a
server bites the dust? We're looking at a whole range of precautions,
including mirroring servers between our two sites, in case the worst should
happen. Lots of other precautions we could take, too - some seem more
necessary than others. I'm reading articles and searching the web for info,
but I wondered what you guys are doing about this. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

We use an old server with Vantage loaded (same patch level as production
server). Each online backup from the production server is restored on
the backup server (both to check the validity of the backup, as well as
have an "active" backup).
In order for the users to "seemlessly" switch over without re-installing
Vantage is to create a hosts file on the workstation which resolves the
production server name with the backup server IP address. (if you want
to do this without rebooting , you need to also clear the arp cache).

If the production server goes down, we only have to go back to the last
online backup.

Another side benefit, is that the backup server makes a great "play"
server to try things out without doing any damage to the production
server.

Can I get clarification of this...
Do you then also have a license for the backup server and running a fullv
version of vantage on there. Or how exactly is that working?

I have told tech support numerous times about our backup server, and
they have never had a problem with it. In fact, they have even told me
it is a good idea to have one.
We don't use it "live", but as a test server to test new patches, custom
programs, and restoring data.

I asked the forum about this because everyone has their own idea of what
works. And although everybody's situation differs slightly, I thought this
would be a chance to glean the best of the best.

I'll definitely get going on the test server idea.

Thanks for the suggestion.
