Vantage: Job Type - Make to Job

Hi i did the same think, but i was having problem when i was completing job.when you create job "make to job", parts did not know where to go, the operation was marked - rec'd to stock, but job was created (linked)to another job.to solve the problem i had to manually rec'd parts to the main job.In Material Management Module, General Operation, Receipts from Mfg. I did find the highlight job (outside operation), than go to "Receive" "Job"That step let me rec'd corectlly one job to another.

We do this fairly often and what you've described looks correct.
Just make
sure that when you issue a PO to the subcontractor that it is a
subcontract
PO linked to your job. For ease, we usually set the last operation
on these
jobs to auto-receive to stock.....

I've never done this before so I just want to see if I am doing it
correctly
or if there is an alternative. We have an assembly on a job which we
usually
do in house but due to some shop problems we want to have it done
outside.
Also due to time constraints we need to supply the subcontractor
with some
material. I want to go into the job and put a pull quantity on the
assembly.
Then I want to create a job with the type being "make to job" , add
the
material the subcontractor requires and then add the subcontract
operation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Receiving a sub-contract PO receives the parts to an operation on the job,
not to stock. You normally would have to "Receive from Manufacturing"
(Inventory Mgmt, Gen Ops) to get the parts from the job to stock- we take
that step out of the process by marking the last operation "Auto Receive".

Also, we usually test parts we get back from subcontractors and we don't
want them going to stock until 'TEST' operation is completed.

Can't stress how important it is for this that you choose the "Subcontract"
radio button on your PO line- if your buyer forgets this your parts will go
directly into stock upon receipt without any of the material or labor costs
that are on the job; the parts will go into stock at the cost of the
subcontract work only, and you'll have a nasty little surprise going through
Cost of Sales when you complete said job. You may be asking yourself, "How
does he know what's gonna happen when this isn't done right?" I must of seen
it on some bad reality-based TV show, is all I can figure...

Let me know if you have other questions.
