Vantage MRP oddities

Duane,

We have been using the MRP for job creation and planning for more
than a year but we are using V8. I don't know how similar the
versions are but would be more than happy to discuss with you.

Scott

ps... We had MANY problems getting this set up correctly as well as 3-
4 patches to make everything work right even after we got set-up. We
also use days of supply, so that adds another dimention to the
calculations.

Hi,

We are currently using Vantage 6.1 (at latest patch level) and trying to
use the MRP module for planning.

Here is the scenario:

1) We have an MPS forecast for a particular assembly, on a date, say
12/21/2006.
2) Before 12/21/2006, we firm up the un-firm job that has been created
by MRP for us.

After 12/21/2006, if this firm job has not been closed, we noticed that
MRP created another un-firm job, with the same 12/21/2006 due date.

This makes our purchasing suggestions over-purchase. Is there any way to
keep this from happening?

Thanks,
Duane

Hello,

I didn't get any responses to my earlier post (below) and was wondering
if perhaps this is because we are using Vantage differently from most of
the readership?

How are most of you who use the MRP module in Vantage using it?

1) How many jobs (firm and unfirm) at any one time?
2) Length of time a job is open.
3) Number of parts in a job
4) BOM structure: a) Assemblies with sub-assemblies, b) Flat job
structure

5) Any other useful use tid-bit.

Any help would be appreciated,
Duane

1) How many jobs (firm and unfirm) at any one time? Open - 150 On Shop
Floor - 40
2) Length of time a job is open. - About 3 months
3) Number of parts in a job - 5,000
4) BOM structure: a) Assemblies with sub-assemblies, b) Flat job
structure - Both, mainly Flat, but we are getting into some Subs.

5) Any other useful use tid-bit. - We don't use the planning and the
only suggestions we utilize are for tooling, not raw material.

Hi Duane,
We are an automotive spare parts manufacturer in Australia and we use
MRP. We have only been using Vantage for approx 3 months. Here is
some info:

1) We have approx 300 - 500 firm and unfirm jobs at any one time.
2) Some jobs are open for 1 day & some for 8 weeks.
3) The number of parts per job varies from 50 - 5000.
4) We use assemblies with sub assemblies.
5) We dont use MPS. We use forecast entry. This works for us.

Cheers,
Jason Abramczyk,
Precision Parts
