Vantage on a Mac

Thanks for all the responses, all theory or things to try at this point.
Anyone actually done any of these or attempted to run 6.1 on the machine?

There is a Terminal Server client for Macs. Just a thought.

Question for anyone that might have a design/engineering department. We
are
running Vantage 6.1 and all our design work is currently not logged in
Vantage anywhere but they threw out the idea of possibly using data
collection and jobs to track the time actually spent engineering a
project.
Does anyone know if it is possible to run Vantage on a Mac? Does it work
in
the newer Mac G5 with its Windows interface?

I don't know if it works on the new Mac, but you can try to use a windows emulator on your Macs... (Something like Real PC) You can also install the remote desktop for Mac and connect the Mac to a "windows" with Vantage...

Are you talking about the Intel based Mac? Then yes, you could run it on
Windows on that hardware. Although I hear the dual boot software is not
very stable yet.

The new Intel-based Macs can run Windows natively as a boot-time option (Apple's BootCamp) or via the open source-led Parallels vitualization product (in which Windows can be run in a Window on the Mac OS X desktop.) The speed is very, very good on both options due to the use of the dual-core/ready-for-vitualization Intel processors.

Of course you'd want to test it, but all of the .NET stuff should theoretically work fine, etc. Coincidentally, we bought one of the new Mac Mini's that use the Intel chips to test some other general purpose Windows PC replacement capabilities as well as for website compatibility testing, etc.

I think the question is - can Vantage run natively on anything but Microsoft
software? The answer is no. Or not without a lot of messing around with
other software packages and Windows emulators.

Before version 8 was even being tested I was told they envisioned it on
handheld devices that could move through the factory (I thought that was
great). Still haven't seen the P4 hand-helds with 1GB of RAM...

Back to the issue - how could they launch a new product without
cross-platform capabilities? If you want to run Vantage, you have to run
Windows clients. I think that was extremely short-sighted. What if I want
to run on a Mac or Linux? That is just one of the moves that has had me
considering options for a new ERP system. I can tell you that I have zero
plans to move to version 8, ever. If my hand gets forced (they stop support
on version 6.1), our company will probably move to a different ERP system
(unless V8 turns into the Holy Grail over the next few years).

Jim,
I installed 8.0 on a brand new G5 earlier this week and it did
work. I am NOT an Apple user and I don't know much about them but I
was impressed with the speed of the XP emulation software my design
guy was using on his new machine compared to his older G4. Now, 8.0
is <S L O W> on a Intel based PC but the Mac makes our PC's seem
like they are working at light speed by comparison. Let me just say
that the time spent installing was definitely not worth it. It
works, but don't bother.
6.x may be a totally different experience.
