Vantage [OT] Windows Explorer Crashing

You might be able to use the Repair option in the Win2k install.

Two things maybe worth trying. There is a free version of NTFSDOS that
boots PC in a DOS mode but allows access to the NTFS file system. May allow
to copy critical files before it goes down totally.

Another might be ERD Commander's Emergency download ($199) which may well be
able to fix the file structure. From Winternals at www.winternals.com

A third option might be off the shelf stuff like Norton Utilities to repar
file structure - if that is actually the problem. If you use the open file
browser on something like Word does it error out there too?

Hi to all,

I have a w2k computer that when in Windows Explorer
and you scroll down the directory tree it errors out.
I have looked at the directories on the local drive
and the network. I can not find anything wrong.

This pc is able to run without problem using my computer.
I don't want to have to reload everything just to fix this
problem.

Do you know of a solution?

Thanks for the help,

I have an XP machine with the same problem. However, if you use My
Computer and display the folders everything works fine.

John, did you try the normal things, like reinstall Service Pack 4?
Reinstall Internet Explorer 6 SP1? Reinstall MDAC 2.7 SP1?

Id definitely try those first, same to you Doug. More often then not, these
simple actions fix A LOT of problems in that area.

If you are getting an actual error though, go to support.microsoft.com and
type the error in their knowledgebase ... This will more than likely show
you your error, the cause, and the resolution to fixing it. Great resource
to use for annoying problems such as those, and free! (what, Microsoft?
Free? Whoa!)

Hello all,

Hoping someone can help. I have crawled the darkest depths of the Microsoft
website and can find this answer. I have a backup scheduled on a
workstation and it generates a last result of [OT] Windows XP 0x2. The MS
website says that a complete list of codes is available on the MSDN site but
I can't find the answer. Anyone know? Thanks.

Jim

Jim,

Sorry. I thought I had it but it turned out to be a Win2K event code
listing. I'll keep looking, though.
