Vantage Part Run Out

We have Buyer's Workbench but not MRP.

With Run-out checked we do get a suggestion to buy, but a big warning
message pops up saying it is on Run-out if you try to create a PO.

I like the suggestion to uncheck the MRP checkbox as part of the
process. Step two would also include unchecking the Generate PO
suggestions. However, we use the message to flag the mass replace of
the old part with the new part in BOMs.

Did not test for manufactured parts.

Does the Run Out check box on the Part Maintenance screen do anything
or is it for informational purposes only? The help isn't very helpfull
on this.
Run out will allow you to use whatever you have in stock, but won't let you
use it once you have none.

What this is useful for is if you put in an alternate part, that alternate
part will be used by default once you have run out of the current stock of
the part set to run out.

hope that made sense, it sounded better in my head.

Thanks Ned. A few follow up questions. Does Run Out prevent you from creating jobs (or purchase orders) to make more of the part? Does it keep it from showing up in MRP? It sounds a lot like Hold except that you can still use it in assemblies until you run out. Is that a correct assumption?

I believe it prevents a PO or job to make the part, not 100% certain but
pretty sure, although i am not sure if "run out" differs from a purchase
part versus a manufactured part.

It don't think it will show up in MRP, but if you have an alternate part
setup, MRP should default to that alternate part.

Yes.

I don't think so but our process has us un-select the Process MRP button on
the Plant tab.

Yes.

We use Run Out in conjunction with Part Substitution. In this case, Vantage
not only tells you that you can't use the part but which part is replacing
it, which is nice.

Keep in mind that this is PART Run Out and not Part Rev Run Out, which would
be cool but then you'd need to be able to track inventory by revision...
