Our custom code does a few things. It offers us three Crystal Forms
which we can design anyway we want.
We manufacture custom size sheet stock and roll stock for the graphic
arts industry. We manufacture "bulk" rolls of material that we stock as
semi finished inventory. Our customers will then order custom size
sheets or rolls of that material and we will manufacture their order to
their specifications by converting the semi finished "bulk roll" to the
size the customer needs.
So, first when an operator issues material from one of these bulk rolls
to a job, and he does not use the entire roll he will be prompted to
print a label that shows the remaining quantity on the roll after the
issue. If he starts with an 8000 LF roll and uses 3000 feet it will
print a label that says there is 5000 LF left on the roll, the label
gets applied and the roll goes back to it's bin.
Second, Whenever an operator receives from manufacturing it produces a
label for them to apply to the product.
And finally when ever a material handler performs the inventory transfer
function it spits out a label with the items new Warehouse and Bin
location on it.
It works perfectly. It is just very hard for me to understand why this
isn't a standard part of the product.

Aaron raises an interesting point that I have had a hard time
understanding why since I purchased Vantage 6 years ago. That is Why
doesn't Vantage offer a way to automatically produce a bar-coded
inventory label at least at the time of receipt from manufacturing and
also preferably at the time of issue or transfer of product. I would
assume that most people who have inventory like to identify it with a
label of some sort. I have bought and paid for several version upgrades
to custom programming to produce these labels and I find it hard to
believe that this should be as standard as the ability to produce an
invoice. Anyone else feel the same way? I would be interested in hearing
if others would like this functionality built in as well.

It is the replacement of the change log. It's the new version starting
I believe with Version 6.0. If you are on 6.0 you will note all your
change logs don't work unless you set them up here.
It has some enhanced functionality as well, not only allowing you to
track changes based on individual fields, but also allow the sending of
an email notification, either by default, or running Progress code to
generate an email (or other function as I use one of mine to call our
label software to generate bar-coded inventory labels based on a
quantity being reported in the shop floor interface).
