Vantage - Screen Resolution

I don't think the issue was Epicor memory cache, I think there was an issue with windows 7 caching. I will check the call details when I return to the office

Hi

We are looking at getting new monitors as the old ones are 800x600 (square ones).

The new widescreens we like are recommended to use 1920x1080.

Epicor looks really small at this resolution.

If we change it to 1600x900 it looks the right size but the text is not crisp.

In windows 7 there is a personalisation screen where you can increase the appearance of the screen to medium or large but the resolution stays the same. Text is very crisp.

There isn't this option on xp and nearly all of our clients are xp as our version of Epicor (9.04.505c) isn't supported on Windows 7.

Does anyone know of a way round this issue? (And don't suggest upgrading to a version of Epicor that is supported on 7 :-) )

Chris Thompson
Windows 7 - go to control panel, then display. Set custom text size.

You’re saying Windows 7 is not a supported OS for running Epicor ver 9.04.505C?

Did I interpret that correctly?

I’m running 8.03.409C just fine on Windows 7 x64 and I’ve tested it on Windows 8, too, without a problem.

Epicor support too us it wasn't supported on 7. We know it does work but its not supported if it breaks. We have had it where a users whole day of work has been lost (on more than one occasion) when using windows 7.

They save the work throughout the day but the next day their changes have reverted back to what they are.

Epicor wouldn't really offer any support but suggested it might be something to do with memory cache in windows 7.

In fairness we haven't had many issues since but it caused a lot of hassle for the user and for IT so to multiply the potential problem by eg 30 users could be daunting especially if Epicor support won't really "support" it.

Seriously? The only thing the Epicor client caches is the presentation layer, not the content, so there is no way updates committed to the DB could simply revert to a prior state.

You had users lose a whole day’s worth of work? Uh? And the next day Epicor automagically undid their work precisely for one day?

I call BS on that one. Impossible. Are you sure they weren’t working in TEST/PILOT ?

Are you sure your users aren’t experimenting with various psychedelic drugs?

I have 45 people on Windows 7 and Vantage 8.03. Never one critical problem. Ever. My only problem is my Windows 7 users can no longer collate when printing from Crystal.

Chris,

I used Window 7 on your version (9.04.505C) in the past (at my prior place
of employment). We had someone lose a whole day's worth of work but it was
not due to anything in Windows. What happened is that they were working in
Pilot and created Favorites while in that database. When they went to input
information in the Live database, they used their Favorites not knowing the
links he created were for Pilot. He thought it was universal since he
signed into the Live database. The screens in both look identical but the
links put the information into the wrong database since they were created to
put data into Pilot.

What I would suggest you do is clear out peoples Favorites, especially the
person that lost a whole days worth of work.

I can't believe that someone at Epicor Support would even suggest that any
9.04.xxx wouldn't run in Windows 7. That is the only operating system I
have used Epicor with. Someone must be pulling your leg on that one!

Chris,

If it is possible that they were in Pilot or Test, you might want to set up
a different screen color for each database. You can use Runtime Styler to
do this.

At one company I worked with, we set up Production to have a faint company
logo as the background. We set Pilot and Test to different, and very
obvious colors (red and green). Test has repeating words in the banner.
Makes it very difficult to not know which database you are in.

Jeff

Hi

They were definitely in live as they don't have access to Pilot or any other DB. We strip those shortcuts off them when we install the clients.

We have when we were implanting encountered the situation you are describing with favourites. This is one of the reasons why we took pilot etc away from them. We reported the easy mistake to make and Epicor UK hadn't heard of it and informed all their consultants immediately.

No I'm sure. They don't have access to any other DB.

Epicor confirmed it as a known fault. Something to do with memory caching. It happened a few times later and we were able to recreate while Epicor were dialled in. A whole day is exaggerating. But if someone was doing mass updates only in one screen they did lose several hours work.
