In the past I have used PrimoPDF to convert Vantage forms to PDF files.
Now the process isn't working for some users, or it will work sometimes and
not other times.
Can anyone recommend an easy and cheap way to get a Vantage form to PDF
format?
Anyone else having the same problem with PrimoPDF?
Thanks for your help.

Hi all,

We are currently in the midst of a upgrade from 8.03.408 to epicor 9.
Epicor is doing the upgrade on our sites via webex.

One thing that I don't understand (I never had any training, just learned by myself) is the schema.
What is it? What does it do? What's the purpose of it? Etc. If anyone would be kind to explain it to me or give me any documentation to educate myself on it I would really appreciate it.

Schema is simply a definition of what tables exists, and which fields within those tables exists.

When you have a schema change, it represents addition or deletion of tables/fields within Epicor. Often times this means having to move data from the old field to the new.

It also can be changes to relationships between tables.

You can use the Data Dictionary Viewer & Dataset Relationships under System Management to bring some visibility to the schema.

Simply put, the schema is your database layout. It includes Tables, field names, all their properties, validation, relationships, etc.. Basically everything about your database except the data itself.

Ephraim,

Schema is basically the database definition. Some fields might be renamed
requiring mapping, others might change their length for example. That is how
I understand it.

The schema is your database layout. This shows all of the tables and
their fields along with the relationships between the tables. Knowing
how all of the tables relate to each other makes it much easier to
create reports or even custom applications. It is really great to have
a visual representation of the schema when you are learning to write
reports from any database. You can use a program like Erwin to produce
a giant poster of the database schema and post on a wall. I find this
to be of great value.

But why does a schema change have to be run before upgrading to 9 ? What can be changed that epicor doesn't know?

A schema change may be the addition or deletion of a table or field or relationship. Any database change is a change to the schema.

The database is being modified to work with the version 9 software (this
is a schema change). If an installation is made that calls on a
database table or field that has not been setup, then the installation
will fail.
