I am interested in speaking to companies that have installed Citrix and thin

considering it. Any suggestions, pitfalls?, etc. Application would be for

Hi everyone! I'm going to purchase the new Crystal Reports v8.0 for the eManufacturing upgrade. Do I need the Standard, Professional, or Developer's edition? Currently, I have the standard edition for customizing. I'm assuming that the Standard 8.0 is the same?

Wendy;

When I bought (not using yet) CR v8.0, I was told, the differences between
the 3 are:

Standard is single user

Professional I believe gives you 5 licenses and more functionality

Developer Provides the greatest functionality, more
programming and the multiple users

This isn't necessarily total fact but the best that I have. We have found
the best pricing from a mail order place called Programmers Paradise. Web
site is programmersparadise.com.

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report Files,
please go to the following link: http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/

(Note: If this link does not work for you the first time you try it, go to
www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password, choose My Groups,
choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the password, the link above
will work the next time you try it.)
Warren,

Standard and Professional are both single user licenses. Standard works
fine for modifying the custom reports in Vantage. If you want to do reports
directly from the Progress database via ODBC, you need the Professional
version. ODBC access isn't available in the Standard Version. I'm not sure
what else they added in the Developer version.

The Pro version works peachy...in an apples-to-oranges sort of way.

Hmmm, it looks like we will just get the standard again. I would like to
get the Professional so we could integrate the Progress ODBC driver but I
know I have to end up getting the cheaper version anyway!

If you plan to customize reports much, you'll want the Professional version. It also includes the Web Component Server for giving people better access to reports, but that part needs a separate machine.

You can do some powerful things with Crystal Professional, though.

In preparation for eMfg, we just upgraded ours to version 8,
and got the professional version. The upgrade price is
about $155 from Insight.com. I'm sure it's probably
similar from other suppliers. For the upgrade price difference,
you may just want to look at getting the Professional to have
features you may want in the future.

As a side note, YOU MUST HAVE CRYSTAL VERSION 8.0 TO CONVERT YOUR FILES FOR
THE CAIRO OR 5.0 RELEASE. If you do not use this version some of your files
will not work properly. I have already ran into this. My suggestion is to
buy the Professional version due to the web capabilities and ODBC
connectivity. The Developer's version will allow you to compile reports
right into custom applications.

Hey Mark,

In reading the installation manual for the 5.0 upgrade it says that all
Crystal Reports for eMan were created with Crystal 7.0 not 8.0 as Egroups
keeps implying. In fact, it states that if you use 8.0 you will need to
save them as 7.0 format.

Is this an error? If so has anyone told Epicor? Or did I miss this
announcement somewhere....

Mark & All;

I tried to purchase v7 last summer and was told by Seagate and most
suppliers that v8 is what is available. E-man does indicate v7 is what they
are using so far as I know.

I have loaded crystal 8.0 professional and have discovered I can no longer
compile executable reports. Is that so or am I over looking something.

They are phasing this out in favor of web distribution but you can still get
a download to add to v8.0 from the Seagate web site for free.

Seagate has a free download to compile the reports on their website. It works just like in version 7 once it is installed.
Good thing, or we'd be somewhat stuck.
