Stuart,
We upgraded to 6.1 this weekend for (2) important reasons -- one of
them was that the S/N functionality works properly in 6.1 and it did
not in 5.2.
I just did a test delete in our S/N module in the Inventory Master
menu with no problems. Maybe you have a permissions problem going on?
